30th September:

North Uist: The Glossy Ibis was at Grenitote.

Benbecula: An adult American Golden Plover was at Liniclate.

Barra: A Red-eyed Vireo was seen at Nask. A Yellow-browed Warbler was at Castlebay. A juvenile Black Tern was still at Eoligarry.

29th September:

Lewis: 2 Taiga Bean Geese were at Loch Stiapabhat.

St.Kilda: A Turtle Dove was on the islands today.

North Uist: 4 Curlew Sandpipers were at Balranald. The juvenile Turtle Dove is still at Balranald. 45 Black-tailed Godwits were at Hosta.

Benbecula: A Little Stint was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A Glossy Ibis was seen on flight near North Boisdale heading towards Loch Dun na Cille.

28th September:

Lewis: 2 Taiga Bean Geese were at Loch Stiapabhat. 2 White-billed Divers (an adult and juvenile) flew south-east passed Port of Ness; a Sooty Shearwater was also seen off there. A Little Egret was at Coll saltings.

North Uist: The juvenile Turtle Dove is still at Balranald. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Loch Paible. The Glossy Ibis was at Grenitote this afternoon.

Benbecula: A Yellow-browed Warbler was seen on Borve machair. A White-rumped Sandpiper was near Stinky Bay this afternoon. A Little Stint was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Kildonan and another was at Ardvule. A female Scaup and juvenile Common Scoter were on Upper Loch Kildonan.

Barra: 2 juvenile Black Terns were at Eoligarry. A Yellow-browed Warbler was seen at Nask.

27th September:

Lewis: 2 Taiga Bean Geese were on crofts north-east of Loch Stiapabhat. The Glossy Ibis was again at Loch Tiumpan.

St. Kilda: A Baird's Sandpiper and a Pectoral Sandpiper were on Hirta today.

North Uist: The Turtle Dove was at Balranald.

Benbecula: A 2nd winter Little Gull was at Borve Point.

Barra: A Barred Warbler was in Northbay.

26th September:

Lewis: A Glossy Ibis was at Loch Tiumpan before flying north-west.

North Uist: The juvenile Turtle Dove was still at Balranald. 2 Grey Phalaropes, a Little Stint and a Curlew Sandpiper were at Balranald.

Benbecula: The 2nd winter Little Gull was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: The Baird's Sandpiper was again at Aird Mhicheil. A juvenile American Golden Plover was on The Range at LA3. A Curlew Sandpiper was on the stubbles at Ardvule.

Barra: The juvenile Black Tern was off Eoligarry pier again today; also a juvenile Sabine's Gull flew south-east past here. A Long-tailed Skua and 5 Sooty Shearwaters were seen off Brevig.

25th September:

Lewis: The Isabelline Wheatear was seen again along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach.

Harris: A Hobby was in Leverburgh.

North Uist: The juvenile Turtle Dove was at Balranald; also 5 Curlew Sandpipers there. A juvenile Little Stint and 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Loch Paible. The Glossy Ibis was seen in Grenitote again today.

Benbecula: A Little Stint was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist:The Baird's Sandpiper was again at Aird Mhicheil although to the south of the cemetery today.

24th September:

North Uist: The juvenile Turtle Dove was still at Balranald. The Glossy Ibis was on the sand at Grenitote this afternoon.

Benbecula: A Little Stint was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist:The Baird's Sandpiper was again at Aird Mhicheil although to the south of the cemetery today. The Glossy Ibis was at Balgarva. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar. A Pectoral Sandpiper was seen briefly at Ardvule. 17 Blakc-tailed Godwits, a Ruff and 3 Pink-footed Geese were on the machair at Ormiclate.

Barra: A juvenile Black Tern was at Eoligarry pier this afternoon.

23rd September:

Lewis: 5 Sooty Shearwaters flew west at the Butt and 4 Snow Buntings were present.

S. Kilda: 2 Baird's Sandpipers were in Hirta today.

North Uist: The Glossy Ibis was seen at Grenitote again this morning.

Benbecula: A Little Stint was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist:The Baird's Sandpiper was again at Aird Mhicheil. 4 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar.

 

22nd September:

Lewis: A Pomarine Skua and 7 Sooty Shearwaters past the Butt this morning. The Isabelline Wheatear was seen again along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach.

North Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper was at Balranald.

Benbecula: A Little Stint and Little Gull were in Stinky Bay this morning.

South Uist: A Baird's Sandpiper was at Aird Mhicheil. The Glossy Ibis was at Balgarva. An American Golden Plover was at LA2.

Barra: The Barred Warbler is still at Nask. The Swainson's Thrush was seen at Cuithir again today.

21st September:

Lewis: The Isabelline Wheatear was seen again along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach. A Garden Warbler was in South Galson.

North Uist: The Turtle Dove was in a field by Balranald visitor centre. 4 Curlew Sandpipers and a Little Stint were at Balranald.

Benbecula: A 2nd winter Little Gull was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: An immature Glaucous Gull was at Kildonan. 3 Curlew Sandpipers and a Little Stint were at Ardvule. A Pectoral Sandpiper was reported from West Gerinish. A Grey Phalarope was on the beach at Milton today.

Barra: The Swainson's Thrush was seen at Cuithir briefly today.

20th September:

Lewis: The Isabelline Wheatear was seen again along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach. 4 Sooty Shearwater past the Butt this morning. A Grey Phalarope was in the bay at Loch Ordais. 6 Sooty Shearwaters and a Snow Bunting were seen at the Butt this evening.

St. Kilda: A Baird's Sandpiper, Arctic Warbler, Jack Snipe, Snow Bunting and Lapland Bunting were on HIrta today.

North Uist: A Pectoral Sandpiper, 7 Curlew Sandpipers, 2 Little Stints and a Black Tern were reported from Balranald today; also a Turtle Dove there.

Benbecula: 5 Curlew Sandpipers and a Little Stint were in Stinky Bay. 35 Pink-footed Geese dropped in at Nunton.

South Uist: The Glossy Ibis was seen at Balgarva. The Barred Warbler was still in Bornish. A Grey Phalarope, Curlew Sandpiper and Glaucous Gull were at Kildonan. 5 Curlew Sandpipers and 4 Ruff were at LA2. A Pied Flycatcher was at Carnan. 200 Pink-footed Geese (in 5 flocks) flew south over South Glendale around 5 pm.

Barra: A Swainson's Thrush was at Cuithir today.

19th September:

Lewis: The Isabelline Wheatear was seen again along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach. 11 Sooty Shearwaters flew past the Butt this morning (07:15 - 09:00). A Firecrest was in a garden at Uigen. 4 Grey Phalaropes flew east past the Butt.

North Uist: 5 Curlew Sandpipers were at Loch Paible. 5 Curlew Sandpipers were on the beach at Balranald and a Little Stint was at Aird an Runair. 18 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch nam Feithean. 8 Sooty Shearwaters were seen from the ferry between Lochmaddy and Uig this afternoon. Over 100 Pink-footed Geese were roosting on Baleshare this evening.

South Uist: A Baird's Sandpiper was on the coast at Kildonan; also a Grey Phalarope, 2 Curlew Sandpipers and a Glaucous Gull there. The Glossy Ibis was at Balgarva. A juvenile Black Tern was seen at Howmore today.

Barra: A Curlew Sandpiper was at Traigh Mhor. A Black Tern was seen from the ferry between Barra and Oban.

Insects: A Lunar Underwing was trapped in South Glendale last night.

18th September:

Lewis: The Isabelline Wheatear was seen again along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach. A Grey Phalarope was at the south end of Loch Barvas.

S. Kilda: Late news of a Lesser Kestrel was on Hirta, 16th September.

North Uist: A juvenile Sabine's Gull and a Little Stint were at Aird an Runair. 35 Pink-footed Geese were at Traigh Eachamais, Baleshare. 500 Pink-footed Geese flew south over Claddach Kirkibost during the day.

South Uist: 4 juvenile Sabine's Gulls, a Long-tailed Skua, Grey Phalarope, 22 Sooty Shearwaters and a Leach's Petrel past Ardvule (06:45 - 08:00). A further Leach's Petrel and 2 Storm Petrels were off Ardvule (11:30 - 12:30); 2 Curlew Sandpipers were in the south bay there too. A Leach's Petrel was off Balgarva and the Glossy Ibis was seen in the saltmarsh. A juvenile Sabine's Gull and 75 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar. 320 Pink-footed Geese came in off the sea at North Bay / Mol Mor this morning, heading south-east. A Grey Phalarope was to the south of Aird Mhicheal. A juvenile Black Tern was on Loch Bornish. A Barred Warbler was in South Glendale and 175 Pink-footed Geese flew south over there.

Barra: The adult American Golden Plover was at Eoligarry. 4 (3 juvenile and an adult) Sabine's Gulls flew south past Vatersay.

 

17th September:

Lewis: 12 Sooty Shearwaters past the Butt (07:00 - 09:00).

North Uist: 310 Pink-footed Geese (in 4 flocks) flew south over or off-shore from Baleshare this afternoon. Also 5 Common Scoters and 6 Pintails, amongst other ducks were seen heading south from Baleshare this afternoon.

South Uist: 35 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar this afternoon. The Glossy Ibis was reported from Balgarva. 25 Pink-footed Geese dropped in at Howmore this afternoon before continuing south.

Insects: 2 Setaceous Hebrew Characters were trapped in Carinish last night.

16th September:

Lewis: 30 Sooty Shearwaters flew past the Butt (07:00 - 09:00) and another 54 past the same location (17:00 - 19:15). An Isabelline Wheatear was seen along the coastal path north of Eoropie beach. A Short-toed Lark was reported from Ardroil today.

St. Kilda: An Arctic Warbler was in Hirta today plus 2 Baird's Sandpipers.

North Uist: 2 Little Stints and 8 Curlew Sandpipers were at Aird an Runair. A juvenile Black Tern was seen off Balranald this evening. A large flock of Pink-footed Geese were heard passing south over Carinish (20:40) after dark.

Benbecula: 5 Curlew Sandpipers were on the shore in Balivanich. 3 Curlew Sandpipers were in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: The Hoopoe was still on The Range at LA3. A Barred Warbler was in Bornish. 2 Little Stints were at Orosay. 5 Curlew Sandpipers, 6 Ruff and the adult Amercian Golden Plover were seen at LA2 today. 25 Curlew Sandpipers and 28 Black-tailed Godwits were at Ardivachar. A Blue-headed Wagtail was seen at Ardvule today; also a Little Stint and 3 Curlew Sandpipers.

Barra: An adult American Golden Plover was at Eoligarry.

15th September:

Lewis: 5 Ruff were on Eorpie machair. A Pied Flycatcher was in South Dell. 2 Black Terns and 2 Curlew Sandpipers were in Uig Bay. A Pied Flycatcher was at Ardoil.

St. Kilda: A Baird's Sandpiper was in Hirta.

North Uist: A Grey Phalarope was on the beach at Aird an Runair. 2 Little Stints were at Loch Paible.

Benbecula: 2 Grey Phalaropes and a 2nd winter Little Gull were in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: The Hoopoe was seen at LA3 on The Range. An adult American Golden Plover, 19 Curlew Sandpipers and 3 Ruff were at LA2. A juvenile American Golden Plover was on Eochar machair, to the south of the green barn at Kilaulay. A juvenile Black Tern was at Howmore before flying north. At least 40+ Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar today.

14th September:

Lewis: 95 Sooty Shearwaters flew past the Butt (07:00 - 09:00). A Whinchat and Spotted Flycatcher were at South Galson. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Steinish.

North Uist: The Grey Phalarope and a juvenile Little Stint were at Hougharry. 9 Ruff were by Loch Sandary. A Glossy Ibis was seen on the salt marsh at Grenitote this afternoon.

Benbecula: A Grey Phalarope was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A juvenile Buff-breasted Sandpiper was in the fields at Ardivachar. A Mediterranean Gull and 32 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar. An adult American Golden Plover was in the last field before the beach along the track at Grogarry Lodge. 3 Curlew Sandpipers were at Howmore. 5 Curlew Sandpipers and a juvenile American Golden Plover were at LA2 and an adult American Golden Plover was also seen there this afternoon. A Turtle Dove was killed by a cat in West Gerinish. A Little Stint was at Balgarva.

13th September:

Lewis: 4 Cory's Shearwaters, 235 Sooty Shearwaters, a Pomarine Skua and 40 Storm Petrels were seen from the Butt this morning. 8 Sooty Shearwaters were seen from the Butt this evening and 70 Pink-footed Geese came in off the sea. A Little Stint was at Loch Ordais. A Spotted Flycatcher was at South Galson.

St. Kilda: A Baird's Sandpiper and 2 Lapland Buntings were seen on Hirta today.

North Uist: The Grey Phalarope was still at Hougharry. 16 Curlew Sandpipers and 3 Little Stints were at Loch Paible.

Benbecula: 2 Grey Phalaropes and a Curlew Sandpiper were in Stinky Bay. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were off Balivanich. The Buff-breasted Sandpiper was seen at Borve.

South Uist: A Blue-headed Wagtail was at Grogarry this morning. A Hoopoe was at West Gerinish and a Hobby was reported from there. 5 Grey Phalaropes were at Milton. 12 Curlew Sandpipers and 70 Black-tailed Godwits were on the Range. 75 Curlew Sandpipers, a Little Stint and a Black Tern was reported from Balgarva. The adult Mediterranean Gull and a Little Gull were at Ardivachar.

Barra: The Barred Warbler was at Nask. A Lapland Bunting flew north over Traigh Mhor this evening.

12th September:

Lewis: A juvenile Black Tern was off Garry beach.

St. Kilda: A Red-backed Shrike was on Hirta today.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Little Stints, 10 Curlew Sandpipers and 3 Ruff were seen at Aird an Runair whlst a juvenile Sabine's Gull and an adult Long-tailed Skua flew south there. A Grey Phalarope was on the beach at Hougharry. 2 Grey Phalaropes, 3 Little Stints and 25 Curlew Sandpipers were at Loch Paible. A Little Gull was reported from Griminish Pier. 3 Ruff were on Berneray.

Benbecula: 2 Grey Phalaropes, a Sabine's Gull and a Curlew Sandpiper were seen in Stinky Bay. A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was at Borve.

South Uist: 7 juvenile Sabine's Gulls, a Pomarine Skua, 4 Leach's Petrels, a Grey Phalarope and 4 Sooty Shearwaters were seen heading south at Ardvule this morning. A Grey Phalarope was at Howmore. 8 Curlew Sandpipers were at Peninerine. a Curlew Sandpiper and 4 Whimbrel were at Aird Mhicheal; whilst a Pied Flycatcher was nearby. 11 Curlew Sandpipers were at Balgarva. At least 90 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar / North Bay; also 2 juvenile Sabine's Gulls, an adult Mediterranean Gull, a Little Gull, a juvenile Black Tern and 2 Grey Phalaropes were seen at Ardivachar during the day. A juvenile Sabine's Gull was in North Bay in the morning at Rubha Thornais. A juvenile Sabine's Gull, 3 Grey Phalaropes and 6 Curlew Sandpipers were between Kildonan and Milton this evening.

11th September:

South Uist: A juvenile Black Tern was at Balgarva this morning.

 

10th September:

Lewis: A juvenile Black Tern was at Port of Ness this morning. 1000+ Sooty Shearwaters and 12 Common Swift were at the Butt (06:45 - 09:00). A Little Stint was at Loch Ordais; also a Brent Goose there.

Benbecula: 4 Curlew Sandpipers were in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: 40 Curlew Sandpipers were at North Bay this evening. 93 Curlew Sandpipers (this evening), a juvenile Black Tern and a 2nd winter Little Gull were at Aridvachar. 29 Brent Geese were at Hebridean Jewellery. A juvenile Black Tern was at Howmore this evening whilst 60 Brent Geese and 24 Black-tailed Godwits were grounded on the beach. 2 juvenile Black Terns were off the north side of Ardvule; also 18 Curlew Sandpipers and a Little Stint. 10 Ruff were at Bornish.

9th September:

Lewis: 200 Cory's Shearwaters, 12 Great Shearwaters and 1000+ Sooty Shearwaters were seen from the Butt this morning (06:30 - 08:00). A juvenile Black Tern was at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: The juvenile Baird's Sandpiper was still at Loch Paible; also 2 juvenile LIttle Stints, 9 Curlew Sandpipers, 6 Ruff and a brief Spotted Redshank. 9 Curlew Sandpipers and a Spotted Redshank were at Aird an Runair. 7 Ruff and 50 Black-tailed Godwits were at Balranald.

Benbecula: The juvenile Black Tern was at Coot Loch again today. A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was with 7 Ruff at Liniclate. 14 Curlew Sandpipers (1 adult) were on the beach at Balivanich and at least 1 Curlew Sandpiper was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: 14 Curlew Sandpipers and 2 Little Stints were on the beach at Howmore this morning. At least 30 Curlew Sandpipers were in North Bay / Mol Mor this morning and 42 reported from there this afternoon. 4 Curlew Sandpipers and 7 Brent Geese were at Hebridean Jewellery. A Curlew Sandpiper and 6 Ruff were at Ormiclate. A Little Gull was at Ardivachar this evening.

8th September:

Lewis: 49 Sooty Shearwaters were seen off the Butt (07:00 - 09:00). 2 Little Gulls were seen from the ferry between Ullapool and Stornoway.

North Uist: The juvenile Baird's Sandpiper was still at Loch Paible; also 19 Curlew Sandpipers, 4 Ruff and a Black-tailed Godwit there. 2 Curlew Sandpipers, a Ruff and a Black-tailed Godwit were at Balranald. 50 Black-tailed Gowits were in a field near Balranald visitor centre.

South Uist: 33 Curlew Sandpipers and a Little Stint were in North Bay; a 2nd winter Little Gull was also there later. 4 Sooty Shearwaters headed south off Ardvule this morning. 4 Curlew Sandpipers were at Peninerine. 7 Brent Geese were at Balgarva. 7 Curlew Sandpipers were on the South Ford.

7th September:

Lewis: 65 Sooty Shearwaters past the Butt (08:15 - 10:00) and a further 590 Sooty Shearwaters were seen from the Butt (10:00 - 13:30). A juvenile LIttle Stint and 3 Ruff were at Loch Ordais. 18 Sooty Shearwaters, a Leach's Petrel, 7 Storm Petrel and a Pomarine Skua flew past Labost in an hour this afternoon; also 2 Swifts present.

North Uist: The juvenile Baird's Sandpiper was still at Loch Paible. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at the north-west end of Baleshare. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Balranald. A Spotted Redshank was at Vallay Strand this afternoon.

Benbecula: 3 Curlew Sandpipers were in Stinky Bay. A juvenile Black Tern was at Coot Loch late afternoon.

South Uist: 5 Curlew Sandpipers and 7 Brent Geese were at Balgarva. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Ardivachar. An adult American Golden Plover was on the machair at Howmore this afternoon.

 

6th September:

Lewis: 104 Great Shearwaters, 1000+ Sooty Shearwaters, 2 Pomarine Skuas and an adult Sabine's Gull flew past the Butt (07:30 - 10:00).

St. Kilda: The Wryneck was still on HIrta but later died.

North Uist: The juvenile Baird's Sandpiper was still at Loch Paible.

Benbecula: 3 Curlew Sandpipers were in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A Glossy Ibis (later flew into fields behind Hebridean Jewellery), Curlew Sandpiper and 7 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Balgarva. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Peninerine. 5 Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar.

Barra: A Turtle Dove was at Eoligarry this evening. A Great Shearwater flew north past Brevig this afternoon and 19 Sooty Shearwaters flew south there this morning.

5th September:

Lewis: A Curlew Sandpiper was at Loch Ordais.

North Uist: The juvenile Baird's Sandpiper was still at Loch Paible this morning. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Aird an Runair. A Russian White-fronted Goose was at Loch na Reivil.

Benbecula: A juvenile Curlew Sandpiper was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: 4 Leach's Petrels and a Sooty Shearwater were off Ardvule late morning. 5 Curlew Sandpipers and a Ruff were at Ardivachar. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were off Hebridean Jewellery. 2 Curlew Sandpipers were on the beach at Peninerine.

Insects: Convolvulus Hawkmoths were seen at Port of Ness and Islivig, Lewis today.

4th September:

Lewis: A Great Shearwater and a Sooty Shearwater flew past Port of Ness this evening.

St. Kilda: A Baird's Sandpiper and a Wryneck were on Hirta today.

North Uist: The juvenile Baird's Sandpiper was at Loch Paible again this morning. A Leach's Petrel and 83 Storm Petrels were seen from the Lochmaddy - Uig - Tarbet ferry.

South Uist: An adult American Golden Plover was on the Range this evening. 3 Curlew Sandpipers were at North Bay and 2 were at Ardivachar.

Marine Sightings: 2 Minke Whales, a Risso's Dolphin and 90 Common Dolphins were seen on the ferry between Lochmaddy - Uig - Tarbet.

3rd September:

Lewis: 2 Great Shearwaters and 540 Sooty Shearwaters flew past the Butt this morning (08:00 - 10:00)

St. Kilda: A Wryneck and a Common Rosefinch were on the island today.

North Uist: A juvenile Baird's Sandpiper, adult American Golden Plover, 20 Curlew Sandpipers, a juvenle Little Stint and a Ruff were at Loch Paible today. A Wood Sandpiper and 12 Ruff were at Loch Sandary.

South Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper and 9 Ruff were at Loch Bee.

Marine Sightings: A Fin Whale, 6 or 7 Minke Whales and 200 Common Dolphins were seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry today.

2nd September:

Lewis: A Balearic Shearwater and 243 Sooty Shearwaters past the Butt this morning (08:00 - 09:15); also 6 Swifts were present. 5 Sooty Shearwaters and a Leach's Petrel were seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry.

Benbecula: 4 Curlew Sandpipers were in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A seawatch at Ardvule this morning produced 3 Sooty Shearwaters, 1163 Manx Shearwaters, 6 Storm Petrels, 62 Kittiwakes, 2 Arctic Terns, 6 Common Terns, single Arctic and Great Skuas. A Curlew Sandpiper was in the south bay at Ardvule. 6 Curlew Sandpipers, 8 Black-tailed Godwits, 2 Ruff and 3 Brent Geese were at the south-west corner of Loch Bee. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Aird Mhichael. A Curlew Sandpiper and 7 Ruff were on the beach at Ardivachar.

Marine Sightings: 60 Common Dolphins and a Minke Whale were seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry today.

1st September:

Lewis: 2 Curlew Sandpipers were at Loch Ordais today.

North Uist: 38 Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff were on Baleshare. A Spotted Redshank was heard callng over Grimsay last night. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Loch Paible.

South Uist: 175 Brent Geese and 8 Pintails flew south past Ororsay this morning. 39 Brent Geese were also on the shore at Orosay. A Curlew Sandpiper was a mile south of Orosay. 82 Brent Geese and 14 Whimbrel flew south at Peninerine. Around 100 Brent Geese (in 2 flocks) south at Howmore this afternoon. An adult and a juvenile Sabine's Gull flew south at Ardvule this evening; also 200 Brent Geese and 13 Sooty Shearwaters south there.
