31st July:

Lewis: A Great Shearwater and 6 Sooty Shearwaters flew past the Butt (06:00 - 09:00) and a further 5 Great Shearwaters, 24 Sooty Shearwaters and 42 Storm Petrels were seen from there by late evening. A Sooty Shearwater was seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry.

South Uist: 2 Crossbills were at North Loch Eynort.

Marine Sightings: 4 Minke Whales and 30 Common Dolphins were seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry.

30th July:

North Uist: The Black-winged Pratincole was at Loch nam Feithean, Balranald this morning.

 

29th July:

Lewis: 5 Leach's Petrels, 200 Storm Petrels and 14 Sooty Shearwaters were seen from the Butt (05:30 - 08:00).

North Uist: The Black-winged Pratincole was at Loch nam Feithean, Balranald this evening. A Pintail was at the southern end of Loch Paible.

 

28th July:

Lewis: A Quail was calling in Port of Ness this morning. 2 Cory's Shearwaters, 2 Great Shearwaters and 15 Sooty Shearwaters flew past the Butt (05:30 - 09:00)

 

27th July:

Lewis: A Cory's Shearwater, 2 Sooty Shearwaters and 21 Storm Petrels flew north-west past the Butt (08:00 - 11:00). A Great Shearwater, Pomarine Skua and 6 Sooty Shearwaters flew south past the Butt in the evening.

S. Kilda: A Ring-billed Gull was on Hirta.

 

 

26th July:

Lewis: 2 Leach's Petrels and 100 Storm Petrels were seen from the Butt (07:00 - 11:00 am). 6 Sooty Shearwaters and 50 Storm Petrels flew north-west past Skigertsa (16:00 - 17:50).

 

25th July:

Lewis: A Ruddy Shelduck was seen at Loch Tiumpan.

North Uist: At least 8 Crossbills are still at Langass Lodge.

 

24th July:

North Uist: 50 Crossbills were at Langass Lodge today.

 

23rd July:

South Uist: A Crossbill was in South Glendale this morning.

Insects: A Marsh Oblique-barred moth was trapped in South Glendale last night.

 

22nd July:

North Uist: A Pintail was on the pool at the southern end of Loch Paible. 35 Crossbills were at Langass Lodge today.

Marine Sightings: A Fin Whale, 3 Minke Whales and 20 Common Dolphins were seen between Lochmaddy and Uig this morning.

 

21st July:

Lewis: A Night Heron flew south over Coll late evening.

North Uist: A Quail was calling this evening by Loch Paible.

South Uist: 2 Scaup were on Loch Bee.

 

20th July:

Marine Sightings: 7 Minke Whales were seen between Uig and Tarbet today.

 

19th July:

Lewis: A Quail was callling in Port of Ness. A Cory's Shearwater flew north-west past Port of Ness this evening.

North Uist: 2 Crossbills dropped in at Carinish this afternoon.

 

18th July:

Benbecula: A 1st summer Little Gull was at Coot Loch before relocating to Stinky Bay this afternoon; also 6 Black-tailed Godwits were in fields by Coot Loch.

South Uist: An Avocet was at the north end of Loch Bee (Clachan) this afternoon and 8 Black-tailed Godwits and 6 Knot were at the south-west end.

17th July:

Lewis: 2 Quail were calling in Port of Ness this afternoon.

Benbecula: A 1st summer Little Gull was in Stinky Bay this evening.

 

16th July:

South Uist: A Great White Egret was seen at the north end of Loch Bee (Clachan) this morning. It was relocated later in the evening at the south-west end of Loch Bee; also 2 drake Scaup there.

 

15th July:

Lewis: The Quail was still calling in Port of Ness this morning.

North Uist: A Black-winged Pratincole was at Hougharry today, moving between the beach and Loch na Reivil. There was also a Barnacle Goose and a Grey Wagtail at Loch na Reivil.

South Uist: An Osprey was seen at Druidibeg this morning.

14th July:

Lewis: A Quail was heard calling near the post office in Port of Ness again this evening.

 

13th July:

Lewis: 2 Swifts were seen over Bragar.

 

12th July:

Lewis: Quail were heard calling at Adabrock, Lionel and Port of Ness this morning.

Harris: A Marsh Harrier was seen over the Shiants today.

North Uist: 2 Swifts flew south over Balranald.

South Uist: A Sandwich Tern was at Ardivachar this morning. 3 Avocets were at the south-west end of Loch Bee. 2 Swifts flew south over Stoneybridge, early afternoon. The Long-tailed Tit is still at North Loch Eynort.

Marine Sightings: 20 Minke Whales were seen between Ullapool and Stornoway.

11th July:

Lewis: The Quail was heard in Port of Ness again today.

North Uist: A blue-phase Snow Goose and a White-fronted Goose were at Loch Sandary. A Pintail and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Paible.

Marine Sightings: A Humpback Whale was seen distantly off Tiumpan Head.

 

10th July:

Lewis: An adult Night Heron was seen flying north between South and North Galson this evening. A male Marsh Harrier was at Brue late afternoon.

 

9th July:

North Uist: 2 Quail were seen on Baleshare.

South Uist: A Red-necked Phalarope was seen in the south-west corner of Loch Bee today.

 

8th July:

South Uist: 3 Avocets were at the south-west end of Loch Bee.

Marine Sightings: 4 Humpback Whales were off Tiumpan Head today.

Insects: 119 moths / 40 species were trapped in South Glendale last night iIncluding 3 Triple-spotted Clay, 4 Rustic, 7 Pretty Pinion, 3 Small Fan-footed Wave and a Eudonia murana.

7th July:

Lewis: A Quail was calling in Port of Ness.

 

6th July:

Lewis: A Turtle Dove was in a Stornoway garden today.

Benbecula: The 1st summer Glaucous Gull was in Stinky Bay again today.

 

4th July:

North Uist: 3 Whimbrel and 16 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Paible.

South Uist: An Avocet was in the south-west corner of Loch Bee.

 

2nd July:

South Uist: 2 Swifts were over Loch Hallan cemetery today.

 

1st July:

North Uist: 3 Common Scoters were in the Sound of Harris off Berneray.
