South Uist: 6 Whooper Swans were on Loch Bee.

Insects: A Hummingbird Hawkmoth was seen between Market Stance and Balivanich todat at around NF788543.

28th July:

North Uist: A Common Crane was reported over Loch Leodasay, Carnach this morning. A Siskin was by the road at Claddach Vallay this afternoon.

Benbecula: The Common Crane was at Loch Fada.

Insects: Moth trapping on Daliburgh machair last night produced 339 moths of 28 species including 17 Pretty Pinion, a Lime-speck Pug, 19 Antler Moths, 7 Flounced Rustic, 2 Six-striped Rustic, 1 Mottled Rustic, 161 Common / Lesser Common Rustic, 5 White-line Darts as well as micros 12 Crambus perlella, 4 Cochylis atricapitana and 7 Bryotropha terrella. in South Glendale 182 moths and 43 species were caught which included 2 Six-striped Rustic, 1 Red Carpet, 2 Barred Rivulets, 2 Small Rivulets and micros agonopterix kaekeritziana, 2 Zeiraphera ratzeburgiana, 9 Catoptria margaritella, 3 Udea lutealis and Eudonia mercurella.

27th July:

Barra - Tiree: 46 Storm Petrels were seen from the ferry between Castlebay and Tiree; all within first third of the journey.

Marine Sightings: A breaching Minke Whale and 8 Common Dolphins were seen from the ferry between Barra and Tiree.

26th July:

North Uist: 48 Black-tailed Godwits flew south at Balemartin.

Benbecula: The Common Crane is still at Loch Fada.

South Uist: A Sooty Shearwater, 87 Manx Shearwaters and 2 Storm Petrels flew south at Ardvule this morning.

25th July:

Benbecula: The Common Crane was again at Loch Fada today.

Insects: A Triple-spotted Clay, Minor Shoulder-knot, 3 Six-striped Rustic and 1 Lempke's Gold Spot were caught in South Glendale last night.

24th July:

North Uist: An Osprey was seen at Claddach Baleshare today.

Insects: A Manchester Treble-bar was trapped in Carinish last night.

23rd July:

Harris: A 2nd summer Iceland Gull was at Bunavoneadar, Aird Asaig this morning and yesterday.

Benbecula: A Sandwich Tern and Whimbrel were in Stinky Bay.

Insects: 322 moths of 57 species were caught in South Glendale last night including Northern Spinach, Scotch Annulet, Oblique Carpet, Barred Rivulet, Six-striped Rustic, Triple-spotted Clay, 10 Burnished Brass and micros Evergestis pallidata, Zeiraphera ratzeburgiana, Endothenia quadrimaculana, Delplanqueia dilutella and 2 Udea lutealis.

22nd July:

Benbecula: The Common Crane was seen at Loch Fada again today.

Insects: A walk at North Loch Eynort today with a net produced 3 Epinotia tenerana, 1 Aphelia viburnana, 6 Leucoptera spartifoliella, 3 Argyresthia retinella and 1 Argyresthia goedartella.

21st July:

Insects: Moth trapping on Eriskay last night produced 189 moth of 41 species which included 10 Pretty Pinion, 29 Wormwood Pugs, 1 Chevron, 2 Scotch Annulets, 6 Rustic, 2 Northern Rustic and micros Scrobipalpa samadensis, 4 Cnephasia conspersana, 2 Eudonia mercurella, 1 Eudonia truncicolella and 1 Eana penziana.

20th July:

Barra: 4 Swifts were over Brevig this evening. Lots of grounded waders (Redshanks, Dunlin and Sanderling were noted on the island today after the thunderstorm last night. A Sandwich Tern was at Eoligarry this afternoon.

Insects: 391 moths of 33 species were trapped in South Glendale last night and included a Lempke's Gold Spot, 6 Gold Spot, 11 Drinkers, 283 True Lover's Knot, 2 Pretty Pinion, 1 Small Rivulet and 1 July Highflyer.

19th July:

North Uist: An Osprey was feeding at Bayhead this evening.

Insects: 213 moths of 41 species were caught in South Glendale last night including a Rustic, Lesser Common Rustic, Scarce Silver Y, 17 Dotted Clay, 2 Small Rivulet, a Pretty Pinion with a few micro moths including Eucosma hohenwartiana, 20 Eucosma cana, Eudonia mercurella, Notocelia cynosbatella and3 Notocelia uddmanniana.

18th July:

South Uist: A southerly passage off Ardvule this morning included 183 Gannets, 2 Red-throated Divers, 42 Fulmars, 216 Manx Shearwaters, 1 Sooty Shearwater, 10 Storm Petrels, 9 Razorbills, 1 Puffin, 1 Black Guillemot, 2 Great Skuas and 4 Little Terns.


17th July:

South Uist: 2 Storm Petrels and 10 Black-tailed Godwits flew south at ARdvule this morning.


16th July:

Benbecula: The Common Crane was once again at Loch Fada today.

14th July:

Marine Sightings: 2 Minke Whales and 6 Harbour Porpoise were off Leinis.

Insects: 220 moths of 25 species were caught in South Glendale last night including a Barred Rivulet. A walk from Orosay – Kilpheder Pt produced 20 Eana osseana,1 Aphelia viburnana and 15 Grass Rivulets today. 332 moths of 31 species were trapped in Carinish.

12th July:

Barra: A Swift and 4 Sand Martins flew south over Eoligarry today.

11th July:

North Uist: An adult male Marsh Harrier was at Balranald today.

Benbecula: The female Ruff is still on Loch Mor.


10th July:

South Uist: 43 Manx Shearwaters and 2 Puffins flew south at Ardvule this morning. A Swift flew over Loch Carnan this afternoon.

9th July:

South Uist: 12 Knot were at Stoneybridge.

Insects: 494 moths of 54 species were trapped in South Glendale last night including a single Double Square-spot, Triple-spotted Clay and Pale Mottled Willow as well as 322 True Lover's Knot, 3 Yellow Shell, 5 Smoky Wainscot, 1 Pebble Prominent, 7 Snout, 1 Grey Scalloped Bar. Micro moths included 2 Catoptria margaritella, 9 Eucosma cana, 9 Bactra lancealana, 2 Bactra furfurana, 2 Bactra lacteana and 2 Notocelia uddmanniana.

8th July:

North Uist: A Whitethroat was singing just north of Kallin.

Benbecula: A female Ruff and at least 4 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Mor this morning. 3 Whimbrel were at Stinky Bay.

South Uist: At Ardvule this morning a southerly movement included 1 Great Northern Diver, 101 Manx Shearwaters (405 north), 2 Arctic Skuas, 1 Great Skua and 1 Black Guillemot while 2 Whimbrel flew north.

Marine Sightings: A Bottle-nosed Dolphin moved south off Ardvule this morning.

Insects: A Red Admiral was in Carinish this afternoon.

7th July:

North Uist: A Barnacle Goose was at the north end of Aird an Runair this morning. 11 Black-tailed Godwits flew south-west over Vallay around mid-day.

South Uist: 38 Fulmars, 148 Manx Shearwaters, 5 Storm Petrels and 52 Puffins flew south at Ardvule this morning.


5th July:

Insects: 114 moths of 28 species were trapped at Carnan last night including a Common White Wave, 3 Light Emerald, 3 Mottled Beauties, 4 Poplar Hawkmoths, 2 Purple Clay and 7 Straw Dots. 248 moths of 43 species were caught in Carinish.

4th July:

Lewis: 10 Black-tailed Godwits were on Loch Stiapabhat.

Barra: A male Whinchat was at Scurrival.

Insects: 93 moths of 30 species were trapped at South Glendale last night and included 10 Mottled Beauty, 1 Triple-spotted Clay, 1 Dotted Clay, 1 Gold Spot, 1 Silver Y and micros Aphelia viburnana and 2 Eudonia mercurella. On Eriskay 83 moths of 26 species were caught and included 3 Rustic, 3 Yellow Shell, Burnished Brass, 3 Grass Rivulet and micros Bactra furfurana and Delplanqueia dilutella.

Marine Sightings: 6+ White-beaked Dolphins went south off Brevig this afternoon; also a Porpoise off there this morning.

3rd July:

North Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit was near Griminish Pier.
