30th June:

Insects: A Four-dotted Footman (1st for Outer Hebrides) was trapped in South Glendale last night.

29th June:

South Uist: A Swift was at Howmore this morning. 2 Black-tailed Godwits flew south at Stoneybridge.

Barra: A 1st summer Little Gull was at Eoligarry this afternoon.

 

28th June:

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose was with Greylags on Loch Bhrusda, Berneray this afternoon.

 

27th June:

South Uist: 19 Black-tailed Godwits were in the south-west corner of Loch Bee.

Marine Sightings: A mixed pod of 18 Bottle-nosed Dolphins and 2 or 3 Risso's Dolphins were off Tiumpan Head this morning; also a Minke Whale was seen in the morning.

 

26th June:

Marine Sightings: 20+ White-beaked Dolphins and 6 Common Dolphins were off Tiumpan Head this morning.

 

25th June:

Benbecula: A Swift was seen at Liniclate this morning.

South Uist: A Swift was also seen on the Range.

24th June:

Lewis: A Rose-coloured Starling was seen at Dunes playpark, Eoropie, Ness today.

Marine Sightings: A pod of Oracs were off Tiumpan Head this morning and later seen off the Butt. At least 6 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off Eoligarry, Barra this afternoon; another Bottle-nosed Dolphin was in Village Bay, Mingulay.

23rd June:

South Uist: A Snowy Owl was seen at Ardvule this morning but flew out to sea and hasn't been relocated. If visiting this site please stick to the track as there are terns nesting around the coastline.

22nd June:

North Uist: A 2nd yr Glaucous Gull was on Paible beach this evening.

Insects: 100 moths / 27 species were caught in South Glendale last night including 3 Drinkers, 1 Small Square-spot, 1 Shark, 3 Small Rivulet, Rhopobota stagnana, Eudonia murana, 3 Neofaculta ericetella and 6 Eucosma campoliliana.

21st June:

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was on the southern shore of Aird an Runair this afternoon. A Whimbrel was at Loch Paible

South Uist: 3 Black-tailed GOdwits were at Loch an't-Saile.

Marine Sightings: 3 Minke Whales were seen 1km east of Tiumpan Head this evening.

 

20th June:

South Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit was on the Howmore River.

Insects: 131 moths / 35 species were caught in South Glendale last night including 5 Green Carpet, 1 Heart & Dart, 1 Cinnabar, 2 Small Rivulet, 1 Elachista albifrontella, 1 Crambus pascuella, 1 Notocelia cynosbatella, 1 Bactra lancealana, 1  Anania fuscalis,  Aethes cnicana, Small Dotted Buff and Incurvaria praelatella.

19th June:

North Uist: A Quail was calling on the west side of Clettreval; 3/4 of the way up the road to the radar station, on the north side.

Marine Sightings: 5 or 6 Orcas (2 bulls) were seen off the east side of Point, Lewis between Bayble and Sheisader this afternoon.

 

18th June:

North Uist: A 2 hour sea-watch from Griminish Point (13:45 - 15:45) produced 560+ Manx Shearwaters, 46 Fulmars, 14 Puffins and a drake Common Scoter heading west.

 

17th June:

North Uist: A House Martin was seen at Borve, Berneray

 

16th June:

North Uist: A Pomarine Skua was reported between Leverbugh and Berneray in the evning.

Marine Sightings: A Basking Shark was seen in Village Bay, Hirta.

 

15th June:

Lewis: The 3rd cal yr Iceland Gull was on the sea at Shadar this morning and was still present in the evening when a 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull also put in an appearance.

 

14th June:

Lewis: A 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull was seen on the coast at Borve this evening. A 3rd cal yr Iceland Gull was on the sea at Shadar this evening.

 

13th June:

South Uist: The Common Scoter is off Howmore.

12th June:

Lewis: An immature Iceland Gull was offshore from Back this evening. A Curlew Sandpiper was on the shore at Breviig, north-east of Stornoway.

North Uist: An immature Glaucous Gull was at Loch Paible.

Benbecula: The 1st summer Ring-billed Gull was reported from Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper was in the south-west corner of Loch Bee.

10th June:

South Uist: A Common Scoter was seen off Howmore.

 

9th June:

North Uist: 2 Little Stints and a Glaucous Gull were at Loch Paible.

Barra: A Blyth's Reed Warbler was singing in Castlebay by the football pitch; also a Lesser Whitethroat there. A House Martin was at Eoligarry.

Insects: A Northern Rustic, Map-winged Swift, 57 Buff Ermine, 5 Small Rivulet, 16 Dusky Brocade, 7 Epiblema scutalana, 2 Falseuncaria ruficiliana and Elachista subalbidella were caught in South Glendale last night.

8th June:

Lewis: A Quail is still calling by Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: 2 Curlew Sandpipers, Little Stint and 3 Black-tailed Godwits were at the south side of Loch Paible and the Glaucous Gull was on the beach nearby. A Quail was at Tigharry; by the school house. A 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull was on the west side of Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A Quail was calling this morning by Borve Guesthouse, Lionacleit.

South Uist: 2 Curlew Sandpipers were seen at Ardvule.

Marine Sightings: 12 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were seen between Berneray and Boreray. 2 or 3 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were seen off Balranald.

 

7th June:

Lewis: A 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull was at Loch Barvas. The Little Stint was at Loch Ordais. A Quail was heard calling at Loch Stiapabhat today.

North Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper, Little Stint and Black-tailed Godwit were at Loch Paible; also a Glaucous Gull was on the beach nearby later in the day.

Benbecula: A Garganey was on Coot Loch.

Barra: A Common Rosefinch was at Creachan.

 

6th June:

Lewis: 2 Long-tailed Ducks flew north at Port of Ness. A Little Stint was seen at Port Mhor, Bragar.

St. Kilda: An Osprey was seen over Hirta.

North Uist: An Osprey was seen heading north over Loch Portain this morning.

Marine Sightings: A Humpback Whale was seen north-east of Tiumpan Head this morning. 12 Minke Whales, 20+ Risso's Dolphins, 30 Common Dolphins, 10 Harbour Porpoise and 7 Basking Sharks were seen from the Oban - Castlebay ferry today.

 

5th June:

Lewis: A 2nd cal yr Iceland Gull flew east past the Butt this afternoon. A Grashopper Warbler was singing in Leurbost.

St. Kilda: A Marsh Warbler was on Hirta this afternoon.

South Uist: 2 Jackdaws and a Rook were at Grogarry.

 

4th June:

North Uist: A Long-tailed Skua was seen from the Lochmaddy - Uig ferry in the evening.

South Uist: A Bee-eater flew south over Ardvule this morning; also a 1st summer Little Gull was at Loch Ardvule.

Marine Sightings: A Basking Shark was seen off Tiumpan Head this morning; also 4 Risso's Dolphins and 3 Harbour Porpoise. 4 Minke Whales and 350 Common Dolphins were seen in the Minch from the ferry between Lochmaddy - Uig - Tarbet today.

 

3rd June:

North Uist: A Bee-eater was seen on wires at Bayhead early afternoon, before flying off towards Loch Paible. A Glaucous Gull was seen at Rubha Mor, to the south-west of Balemore.

Barra: A Bee-eater was at Nask this morning.

 

2nd June:

St. Kilda: 3 Greenland Redpolls were on Hirta (for their fourth day).

North Uist: A 1st summer Common Rosefinch was seen at Kyles Paible.

Benbecula: A drake Garganey was on Coot Loch.

South Uist: A 1st summer Iceland Gull flew south over Loch Rog, Howbeg. The Viking Gull was at Ardivachar.

Barra: A Subalpine Warbler species (probably Eastern) was at the church at Eoligarry mid afternoon.

 

1st June:

Sula Sgeir: A Little Stint was seen on the island today.

Benbecula: A drake Garganey and 12 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Mor this morning.

South Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper was at Ardivachar. A Curlew Sandpiper was on the coast at Stoneybridge.

Marine Sightings: A Fin Whale was seen 5 km east of Tiumpan Head this morning; also 6 Minke Whales off there.
