31st December:

North Uist: The pair of Cackling Geese were at Balranald today; also around 270+ Snow Buntings on the machair there and a drake Pintail on the sea.

30th December:

North Uist: The pair of Cackling Geese were in the Kyles Paible area this afternoon. Nearby at Rubh' Arnal were 4 Iceland Gulls (3 juveniles and a 2nd winter), 83 pale-bellied Brent Geese and 11 Snow Buntings.

29th December:

South Uist: 21 Gannets, 2 Fulmars, 8 Great Northern Divers, 9 Red-throated Divers, 10 Long-tailed Ducks, 6 Eiders, 9 Black Guillemots and 9 Kittiwakes flew south at Ardvule this morning.

 

26th December:

North Uist: A Gyr Falcon was reported from Baleshare, near the coastal car park this morning. 20 Snow Buntings were also on Baleshare. 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls, a juvenile Glaucous Gull and 90 Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal.

South Uist: The Little Egret was seen by the turning for Hebridean Jewellery at Eochar.

25th December:

South Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Ardvule; a female Common Scoter flew north and a Black-tailed Godwit was also present. A Waxwing was seen on Eriskay today.

24th December:

North Uist: 5 Fieldfares were at Scotvein, Grimsay this afternoon.

South Uist: A Lapland Bunting and 10 Snow Buntings were amongst a large flock of Twite on Eochar machair, near Kilaulay barn. 44 Barnacle Geese, 125 Greenland White-fronted Geese, a drake Pintail and a Black-tailed Godwit were on the west side of Loch Bee.

 

23rd December:

North Uist: 25 Common Redpolls were in Ben Risary plantation.

South Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was showing at the north end of Loch Bee this morning. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was seen at LA2 on the Range.

 

22nd December:

North Uist: 20 Snow Buntings were on the machair at Grenitote. A juvenile pale-bellied Brent Goose and 2 hybrid Canada x Barnacle Geese were amongst Barnacles at Malaclate.

South Uist: 2 male Common Scoters flew south at Ardvule this morning.

Insects: An Acleris hyemana was caught in South Glendale last night. 2 Winter Moths were also seen in South Glendale this evening.

20th December:

North Uist: Around 400 Snow Buntings are still at Balranald; also a juvenile Iceland Gull along the shore there.

South Uist: 6 Snow Buntings were at Ardvule.

 

19th December:

Lewis: The Goshawk was reported from Barvas again today and yesterday.

South Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit was at Ardvule today. The Little Egret was in the creek at the north end of Loch Bee this afternoon.

 

17th December:

Harris: 2 drakes and a female Surf Scoter were in the Sound of Taransay today along with 450 Common Scoters and 350 Eiders.

North Uist: 400+ Snow Buntings were at Balranald today. The drake Pintail was on the sea off Aird an Runair. The Snow Goose, 2 Cackling Geese, the Todd's Canada Goose and 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Loch nam Feithean. A Coot was on Loch Sandary. 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and 70 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal; a Glaucous Gull was also reported from here.

South Uist: 8 Greenland White-fronted Geese and 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Askernish today.

16th December:

Lewis: A Goshawk was reported from Barvas.

North Uist: The 2 Cackling Geese were at Knockintorran; also a Pink-footed Goose there. A Todd's Canda Goose was with around 600 Barnacle Geese at Aird an Runair, Balranald; also around 350 Snow Buntings and a Lapland Bunting were in a large mixed flock with Twite at Balranald. A drake Pintail was on Loch a' Roe.

South Uist: The female Blackcap is still in South Glendale.

15th December:

North Uist: 5 Snow Buntings were amongst the Twite on Baleshare this afternoon.

South Uist: A Little Egret was at the north end of Loch Bee.

 

14th December:

North Uist: An adult Glaucous Gull was at the southern end of Berneray; also 2 pale-bellied Brent Geese amongst the Barnacle Geese and a juvenile Greenland White-fronted Goose with the Greylags.

 

13th December:

North Uist: The pair of Cackling Geese, a Pink-footed Goose, 39 pale-bellied Brent Geese, a handful of Snow Buntings and a Chiffchaff were at Rubh' Arnal / Balemore this afternoon. 2 Fieldfares were in Carinish.

Barra: The Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch Tangasdale.

12th December:

North Uist: 2 Cackling Geese were seen at Balranald today; the drake Pintail was also on Loch a' Roe.

South Uist: A Pintail and a Black-tailed Godwit were at Ardvule. A female Blackcap is still in South Glendale. A juvenile Glaucous Gull flew south at Frobost today.

11th December:

North Uist: 2 Pink-footed Geese were on Baleshare.

South Uist: A female Blackcap was in South Glendale today.

 

9th December:

North Uist: 50 Snow Buntings, a Tree Sparrow and 45 Brent Geese were seen at Rubh' Arnal this morning.

South Uist: A Snow Bunting flew over South Glendale this morning. A Chiffchaff was in Askernish.

 

8th December:

North Uist: 21 Snow Buntings were at Balranald; also 3 flew out to sea there towards the Monachs. A drake Pintail was on Loch a' Roe. The Snow Goose was also seen on the headland at Balranald.

 

7th December:

South Uist: 2 Snow Buntings were at Ardvule this morning and 2 Common Scoters flew south. A male Blackcap was in South Glendale.

 

6th December:

South Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal and Little Egret were at the north end of Loch Bee again today. The egret tends to move between the sea channel at Clachan and the pools around Hebridean Jewellery.

 

4th December:

South Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal was seen at the north end of Loch Bee today. Southerly movement at Ardvule this morning included 23 Gannets, 2 Fulmars, 19 Red-throated Divers, 8 Great Northern Diver, 1 Slavonian Grebe, 21 Eider, 4 Long-tailed Duck, 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, 1 Razorbill and 4 Kittiwakes. A Blackcap was in South Glendale.

Barra: The Ring-necked Duck was seen at Loch Tangasdale and 2 Tree Sparrows were at Brevig.

3rd December:

North Uist: A hybrid drake American Wigeon x Eurasion Wigeon was on Loch Mor, Baleshare this afternoon. A Jack Snipe was in Carinish. The Snow Goose and 3 Pintail were at Loch nam Feithean, Balranald today.

South Uist: A Snow Bunting was at Ardvule.

 

2nd December:

South Uist: 2 Common Scoters flew south at Ardvule this morning. The Little Egret was just south of Hebridean Jewellery this morning.

 

1st December:

North Uist: 90 Snow Buntings were seen at Balranald this morning. The Todd's Canada Goose and Snow Goose were seen by Loch Sgaraigh, Balranald.

South Uist: A Chiffchaff was in South Glendale today. The Waxwing is still in Askernish.

Barra: 2 Common Redpolls were in Castlebay. 11 Snow Buntings were at Eoligarry.
