31st January:

Lewis: An immature Glaucous Gull was at the Butt. A Jack Snipe was near Eoropie. A Grey Wagtail was in Sandwick Bay.

North Uist: A single Fieldfare was at Scolpaig.

 

30th January:

Lewis: An Iceland Gull was at the Butt.

North Uist: 8 Glaucous Gulls (an adult and 7 immatures), 7 Iceland Gulls (an adult and 6 immatures), 108 Brent Geese, 4 Lapland Buntings and 7 Snow Buntings were at Rubh' Arnal.

South Uist: 3 Lapland Buntings were on Eochar machair. A Glaucous Gull was at Askernish.

29th January:

Lewis: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour today off Battery Point.

South Uist: 2 immature Glaucous Gulls were at Kilpheder today.

28th January:

South Uist: 5 Fieldfares were in West Kilbride today. An immature Glaucous Gull was at Smerclate this afternoon.

 

27th January:

Lewis: An adult Iceland Gull and an adult Glaucous Gull were on Goat Island, Stornoway this afternoon.

North Uist: The drake Green-winged Teal is still on Loch Sandary. A minimum of 5 Iceland Gulls and 6 Glaucous Gulls (all juvenile) were at Rubh' Arnal.

South Uist: A Glaucous Gull was in the south-west corner of Loch Bee. A Ruff was on the pools on LA2. A Lapland Bunting and 3 Snow Buntings were on Eochar machair, south of Ardivachar.

Barra: A Grey Wagtail was seen on the shore in Brevig today.

26th January:

Lewis: 2 Bramblings were in Urquhart Gardens, Stornoway.

Benbecula: The drake Green-winged Teal is still on Coot Loch.

 

25th January:

Lewis: 4 Glaucous Gulls (2 adults and 2 juveniles) and 2 Iceland Gulls (an adult and a juvenile) were at the Butt this afternoon. An immature Glaucous Gull was at Loch Àirigh na Lic, near Stornoway landfill site today. 2 Hawfinch and a male Blackcap were coming to a Urquhart Gardens, Stornoway.

South Uist: A Great Tit was in Askernish today. 49 Brent Geese flew south off Ardvule this morning.

 

24th January:

North Uist: 4 juvenile Glaucous Gulls and 122 Brent Geese were at Rubh' Arnal. The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary.

Marine Sightings: 2 Risso's Dolphins and 12 White-beaked Dolphins were off Tiumpan Head today.

23rd January:

Lewis: 2 adult Iceland Gulls flew south past Tiumpan Head mid morning.

South Uist: 2 immature Glaucous Gulls were at Stoneybridge this afternoon. A Glaucous Gull flew over Askernish beach in the afternoon.

 

22nd January:

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was along the shoreline in Carinish this morning.

Benbecula: A drake Green-winged Teal was on Coot Loch this afternoon.

South Uist: A Glaucous Gull was at Kilpheder and 3 Glaucous Gulls were at Garrynamonie. A single Brambling and a Water Rail were in a garden at Carnan.

20th Janaury:

North Uist: Around 30 Snow Buntings are at Balranald.

Benbecula: The drake Green-winged Teal and Little Egret are on Coot Loch. A juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: A Water Rail is at Carnan.

 

19th January:

Lewis: An adult Iceland Gull was seen at Tiumpan Head this morning. 10 Velvet Scoters were on Broad Bay, north of the Braigh.

North Uist: 5 Fieldfare were in Carinish. 89 Brent Geese were on the south-east side of Baleshare this evening.

Marine Sightings: 8 Common Dolphins and 5 White-beaked Dolphins were seen off Tiumpan Head.

 

18th January:

Benbecula: The Green-winged Teal and Little Egret were at Coot Loch. A juvenile Iceland Gull flew north at Stinky Bay.

South Uist: 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls and a Jack Snipe were at Ardvule this morning. 2 Pink-footed Geese were on Bornish machair. A Glaucous Gull was at Garrynamonie. The American Golden Plover was off Hebridean Jewellery again today. A Lapland Bunting, 3 Snow Buntings and a juvenile Glaucous Gull were on Eochar machair. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Peninerine.

17th January:

Lewis: 2 Iceland Gulls (an adult and a juvenile) were at Tiumpan Head.

Benbecula: A Little Egret is at Coot Loch.

South Uist: The American Golden Plover is on the South Ford opposite Hebridean Jewellery.

 

16th January:

Lewis: 2 Hawfinch were in Urquhart Gardens, Stornoway again today.

South Uist: An immature Glaucous Gull was at Smerclate and another was at Stoneybridge. A Pink-footed Goose was at Bornish today.

15th January:

South Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was in the south-west corner of Loch Bee.

Marine Sightings: A dead Pilot Whale is on the shore at Kilpheder.

 

14th January:

North Uist: 8 Snow Buntings were at Malaclate and a Pink-footed Goose was amongst the Greylags there. An American Wigeon was on Oban Trumisgarry this morning. A Fieldfare was in Lochmaddy. The Snow Goose was at Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A Green-winged Teal and a pair of Pintail were on Loch Fada.

South Uist: An immature Glaucous Gull was at Garrynamonie. A Red Kite flew north through South Glendale at 15:00 today.

 

13th January:

Lewis: A juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour this morning.

 

12th January:

Lewis: A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Loch Branahuie.

North Uist: The Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary and the Snow Goose was in fields to the south this afternoon. At least 4 Glaucous Gulls (a 2nd winter and 3 juveniles) and 2 Iceland Gulls (a 2nd winter and a juvenile) were at Rubh' Arnal. The 2 Cackling Geese are still at Balranald.

Barra: The juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Traigh Eais.

Marine Sightings: Around 40 Common Dolphins were feeding to the east of Tiumpan Head in the morning.

11th January:

Lewis: 2 Iceland Gulls (a 3rd cal yr and an adult) were near the Iolaire Monument, east of Stornoway this afternoon.

 

10th January:

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull and a Snow Bunting were on Baleshare.

South Uist: 2 immature Glaucous Gulls were on Bornish machair.

 

9th January:

South Uist: The American Golden Plover was off Hebridean Jewellery this afternoon.

Barra: The juvenile Glaucous Gull is still at Traigh Eais.

Marine Sightings: 15 - 20 Common Dolphins moved south off Tiumpan Head this morning.

 

7th January:

North Uist: A Glaucous Gull was seen at Balranald.

South Uist: An immature Glaucous Gull was at Smerclate.

Barra: The juvenile Glaucous Gull is still at Traigh Eais on the whale carcass.

 

6th January:

Lewis: An adult Iceland Gull was at Tiumpan Head in the morning.

South Uist: The juvenile Glaucous Gull is still at Ardvule; also 4 Goldeneye and 4 Kittiwakes flew south there this morning.

Barra: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was seen today.

5th January:

Lewis: 850 Eiders, 59 Common Scoters and 10 Velvet Scoters were on Broad Bay; also a juvenile Iceland Gull there. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Loch Branhuie. The Hawfinch was in Urquhart Gardens, Stornoway in the morning.

North Uist: A Ruff and 1,475 Barnacle Geese were at the southern end of Berneray. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Kyles Paible.

South Uist: A Water Rail was visiting a garden in Carnan this afternoon.

4th January:

Lewis: An adult Iceland Gull was at Tiumpan Head. Am adult Iceland Gull was on Goat Island in Stornoway harbour. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Stornoway landfill site.

North Uist: 2 Cackling Geese were at Balranald; also 50 - 60 Snow Buntings there.

Benbecula: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was off Balivanich.

South Uist: The American Golden Plover was on the shore at Balgarva again this afternoon before flying towards Hebridean Jewellery. 185 Greenland White-fronted Geese were on the west side of Loch Bee. 4 Scaup were on Loch Bee. A Lapland Bunting and a Snow Bunting were on Eochar machair. A juvenile Glaucous Gull, Jack Snipe, 3 Pintail and 3 Pink-footed Geese were at Ardvule.

Marine Sightings: 20 Common Dolphins were feeding off Tiumpan Head this morning whilst a mixed group of 30 - 40 White-beaked Dolphins and 40 - 50 Common Dolphins moved slowly south late morning; also 7 Harbour Porpoise there. A Harbour Porpoise was seen to the north-west of Balgarva, South Uist this afternoon.

 

3rd January:

South Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull and a Jack Snipe were at Ardvule. A Ruff was on Eochar machair on the pools by the firing range.

Marine Sightings: 5 Common Dolphins and 2 groups of White-beaked Dolphins were seen to the east of Tiumpan Head this morning.

 

2nd January:

North Uist: 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls were on the beach at Baleshare this morning. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Bayhead. 3 juvenile Iceland Gulls, a juvenile Glaucous Gull and a Lapland Bunting were at Rubh' Arnal. The Snow Goose and Green-winged Teal were on Loch Sandary. 2 Cackling Geese were at Balranald.

Marine Sightings: 10 White-beaked Dolphins and 6 Common Dolphins were seen off Tiumpan Head today.

1st January: Happy New Year

Lewis: A Glaucous Gull was on Fivepenny machair.

North Uist: The Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary. A Snow Goose was on Balemore machair; also around 30 Snow Buntings in the area. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Rubh Arnal; also 60 Brent Geese there. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Knockintorran. 2 Cackling Geese were by Loch Scaraidh, Balranald; also at least 10 Snow Buntings were on the machair. 17 Pintail were on Loch nam Feithean. 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls were on the shore at Hougharry. 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls were on Baleshare.

Benbecula: The Green-winged Teal was on Coot Loch. 2 Pintail and 3 Pink-footed Geese were at Loch Mor. A Glauous Gull was in Stinky Bay. 2 Barnacle Geese were at Torlum.

South Uist: A Glaucous Gull was at Garrynamonie. A Water Rail was at Carnan. A hybrid Glaucous x Herring Gull was at Orosay this morning.

Barra: The Velvet Scoter was off Eoligarry; also a Treecreeper, Chiffchaff and 2 Snow Buntings on the island.

Marine Sightings: 57 Common Dolphins were seen off Tiumpan Head.
