31st August:

Benbecula: A Chiffchaff was at Liniclate.

South Uist: A juvenile Citrine Wagtail was at the mouth of the Howmore River with a large flock of alba wagtails today. A juvenile Curlew Sandpiper was at the south end of Loch Bee. 24 Black-tailed Godwits were on the machair at Kilaulay. A Garden Warbler was in South Glendale today.

Insects: 82 moths of 20 species were trapped at Carnan including 2 Northern Rustic and 2 Silver Y. At Carinish 139 moths of 25 species were caught including a Dark Sword-grass, Silver Y and Angle Shades amongst others.

30th August:

Barra: A juvenile Pied Flycatcher was at Brevig and a Whitethroat was in Castle Bay.

29th August:

Lewis: A juvenile Curlew Sandpiper, juvenile Black-tailed Godwit and 2 Common Sandpipers were at Loch Ordais today. A Swift was over Port of Ness, a ringtail Hen Harrier was at the Butt and a juvenile Black-tailed Godwit at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: An Isabelline Wheatear was reported briefly from Scotvein, Grimsay this afternoon but couldn't be relocated.

Benbecula: 4 Black-tailed Godwits were at Borve.

South Uist: 126 Black-tailed Godwits were in fields next to Hebridean Jewellery. A Whimbrel was in North Bay. 14 Black-tailed Godwits were at Stoneybridge. A Swift was seen over Bornish.

Marine Sightings: 15 - 20 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off the Butt of Lewis early this afternoon.

28th August:

Lewis: A Short-eared Owl was seen near Loch Croistean today.

South Uist: Seawatching at Ardvule (0725-0840 hrs.) produced southerly passage of 706 Gannets, 13 Manx Shearwaters, 2 Great Skuas, 9 Kittiwakes, a Black Guillemot, 3 Razorbills and a Red-throated Diver. A single moulting ad Ruff was on Bornish machair.

27th August:

Harris: At least 60 Common Scoters are in the Sound of Taransay.

26th August:

North Uist: An adult Curlew Sandpiper was on the beach at Aird an Runair this afternoon and around 6 Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff were at Loch na Reivil, Hougharry.

Barra: A Spotted Flycatcher was at Brevig.

Insects: At North Loch Eynort last night 39 moths of 20 species were trapped including a single Pink-barred Sallow, Heath Rustic, 3 Barred Chestnut, an Angle Shades, Great Brocade, 2 Lesser Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, a Golden-rod Pug, 3 Dark Marbled Carpet, a Chestnut-coloured Carpet, Grey Pine Carpet and 3 Bee Moths. In South Glendale 129 moths of 34 species. were caught including a Minor Shoulder-knot, Northern Deep-brown Dart, Hedge Rustic, Pink-barred Sallow, 2 Neglected Rustic, an Anomalous and a Small Autumnal Moth.

25th August:

South Uist: 2 Black-tailed Godwits were near Hebridean Jewellery this afternoon. A Kingfisher was seen on the Howmore River at dawn today. The Melodious Warbler is still at Ormiclate.

24th August:

South Uist: The Melodious Warbler and a Cuckoo were seen at Ormiclate.

Insects: 3 Red Admirals were seen at Ormiclate. Moth trapping on Eriskay last night produced 183 moths / 27 species which included 5 Northern Deep-brown Darts, 2 Neglected Rustic, 3 Northern Rustic, 3 Hedge Rustic, 12 Mouse Moths, 28 Autumnal Rustic, an Anomalous and 6 July Highflyers.

23rd August:

South Uist: A Melodious Warbler was reported from the garden of number 12 Ormiclate (to the south of Ormiclate Castle)

22nd August:

North Uist: 12 Black-tailed Godwits were on Baleshare this evening. A Ruff was at Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: 6 Ruff were at Borve and 2 were at Aird.

South Uist: 3 Great Skuas, an Arctic Skua and 4 Great Northern Divers were seen off Ardvule between 07:30 - 09:00. Also in the area 12 Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff.

Insects: 66 moths of 14 species were trapped in South Glendale last night including a Dotted Rustic. A Dark Green Fritillary was seen near Ardvule today.

21st August:

North Uist: A juvenile Cuckoo was in Sollas today.

Benbecula: 3 Ruff and 7 Black-tailed Godwits were at Borve.

South Uist: 3 Great Skuas and 197 Fulmars flew north off Ardvule this morning.

20th August:

North Uist: An adult Curlew Sandpiper and Black-tailed Godwit were at Loch Paible this morning.

South Uist: A Kingfisher was reported from the Howmore River.

19th August:

North Uist: A juvenile Siskin was in Carinish this morning.

18th August:

Lewis: 5 Sooty Shearwaters west past the Butt (11:15 - 14:15) along with an estimated 4,700 Gannets. An estimated 10.600 Gannets flew north past Port of Ness in 3 hours in the morning. A Ruff was at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Ruff, 10 Black-tailed Godwits and a Whimbrel were in a recently cut field at Tigharry today.

17th August:

Lewis: 15 Sooty Shearwaters flew west past the Butt today and 3 juvenile Ruff were on a pool nearby.

South Uist: 3 juvenile Black-tailed Godwits were at Howmore.

16th August:

Lewis: 3 Ruff were at Loch Stiapabhat and 15 Black-tailed Godwits were on Eoropie machair.

South Uist: Seawatching at Ardvule (0655-1130) produced southerly passage of 1556 Gannets, 319 Manx Shearwaters, 36 Fulmars, 2 Storm Petrels, 11 Arctic Terns, 22 Kittiwakes, 1 Arctic Skua, 1 Black Guillemot. A juvenile Ruff was on Bornish machair.

15th August:

Insects: 80 moths of 21 species were trapped in South Glendale last night including the first Autumnal Rustic and Northern Deep-brown Dart of the year.

14th August:

North Uist: 3 juvenile Ruff were at Loch Sandary and a Black-tailed Godwit flew south over Loch Paible. A juvenile Corncrake was at Rubh' Arnal.

South Uist: An Osprey flew south over Loch Stilligarry today.

Insects: A Painted Lady was at Rubh' Arnal along with 4 Red Admirals. Other Red Admirals included 2 near Kyles Paible and 2 at Claddach Baleshare.

13th August:

North Uist: 5 Black-tailed Godwits flew north-west over Carinish this afternoon. 9 Ruff were on Baleshare today.

South Uist: A juvenile Ruff was in North Bay this morning and another was by Loch an't-Saile. A sea-watch from Ardvule (0645 – 0955) produced a northerly passage of 433 Fulmars, 597 Manx Shearwaters, 3 Sooty Shearwaters, 1 Storm Petrel, 6 Kittiwakes, 11 Arctic Terns, 2 Great Northern Divers, 2 Red-throated Divers. Also a single Great Skua south.

12th August:

Lewis: A family party of Spotted Flycatchers and Long-tailed Tits (at least 9 of latter) were at Marybank today.

Harris: 2 Black-tailed Godwits, a Ruff and 2 Knot were at Northton this evening.

South Uist: Sea-watching from Ardvule (0645 – 1050) produced a northerly passage of 1065 Manx Shearwaters, 722 Fulmars (1 Blue Fulmar), 1 Storm Petrel, 164 Gannets and 4 Kittiwakes ( very small numbers of Gannets, Fulmars and Manx flew south) while birds moving S included 1 Great Skua, 3 Common Terns, 10 Arctic Terns and 1 RT Diver. A Black-tailed Godwit was in the south bay.

11th August:

South Uist: An adult American Golden Plover was on Bornish machair today. A sea-watch from Ardvule (07:45 - 10:20) produced 853 Manx Shearwaters, 3 Sooty Shearwaters, 139 Fulmars plus a Great Skua north and 271 Gannets south.

Marine Sightings: 10 - 15 Common Dolphins were seen several miles east of Lochboisdale yesterday along with around 50 Storm Petrels.

10th August:

Lewis: 2 Knot and a Common Sandpiper were at Loch Barvas this evening. 30+ Goldfinch were feeding on thistles by Bennadrove Landfill Site, Stornoway. A drake Scaup is on Loch Branahuie.

South Uist: A female Common Rosefinch was in Askernish today.

Insects: A Painted Lady was at Meannan, north of the Pentland Road today. A Manchester Treble-bar was on the north side of Beinn Mholach.

5th August:

North Uist: Over the last few days there have been some large gatherings of seabirds on the North Ford between Carinish and Benbecula including well over 1,000 Arctic Terns this evening. On the 3rd August 800+ Gannets were also feeding in the same area and 82 Red-breasted Mergansers.

South Uist: A drake Goosander is on the coast between Stoneybridge and Peninerine. 2 Whimbrel are at Ardvule. A juvenile Cuckoo was at North Loch Eynort. A Long-tailed Duck was off Howmore today.

Insects: A Mother-of-Pearl moth was trapped in South Glendale last night.

3rd August:

North Uist: 2 Green Sandpipers were at Loch Paible this afternoon along with an adult Ruff and 10 Knot. A Black-tailed Godwit was nearby in a recently cut field.

South Uist: A juvenile Ruff was at Orosay.

2nd August:

Insects: A Canary-shouldered Thorn was trapped at Carnan last night (first for Outer Hebrides).

1st August:

North Uist: A Water Rail is singing at Carinish this evening.

Insects: 197 moths of 50 species were trapped in South Glendale last night including a Barred Rivulet, Gothic, 3 Rustic, 2 Brown China-marks, 3 Pyla fusca and an Acleris effractana. At North Loch Eynort 75 moths of 28 species were caught including a Double Square-spot, Barred Rivulet, 2 Scotch Annulet, 5 Light Emerald,  a Riband Wave, 3 Small fan-footed Waves and 4 Barred Red.
