30th April:

North Uist: 5 Dotterel are still present on Baleshare

 

29th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch Tiumpan. 2 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff were at Port Volair.

South Uist: A Woodcock was seen in Askernish.

Insects: A Powdered Quaker was trapped at Carinish last night. A Peacock butterfly was at Langass Lodge today. A Red Admiral was seen at the summit of Beinn Mhor, North Uist today. A Puss Moth, Clouded Drab, 3 Early Grey, Flame Carpet, Striped twin-spot Carpet, Dark- barred Twin-spot Carpet and 2 Acleris rufana were trapped in South Glendale last night.

28th April:

Lewis: A 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull was on the north-west shore of Loch Barvas. 60 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west past the Butt; also 8 Whimbrel there. The drake Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Tiumpan.

North Uist: 5 Dotterel are still on Baleshare, just east of the coastal car park; also at least 10 Whimbrel and a Black-tailed Godwit on the island. A 2nd cal. yr Iceland Gull and 5 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Sandary this evening.

South Uist: 47 Whimbrel were at Frobost.

Barra: A Hawfinch was at Creachan and 2 Bramblings were on the island.

27th April:

North Uist: A pair of Garganey were on Loch nam Feithean.

Insects: A Brindled Ochre was trapped in South Glendale last night and a Philedonides lunana was netted at Loch Eynort today.

26th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Tiumpan this morning. 200 Pink-footed Geese were on Lionel machair. 2 Common Redpolls were at Ranish. A drake Ring-necked Duck was seen on Bernera on a lochan between Valasay (Bhalasaigh) and Tacleit.

North Uist: 2 Garganey (one drake) were seen at Loch nam Feithean, Balranald this morning. 5 Dotterel are still on Baleshare. A Snow Bunting was seen at Balranald.

South Uist: 2 Common Redpolls were at Carnan. 9 Brent Geese were at Peninerine. 2 drake Scaup were on Loch Bee.

Barra: A Hawfinch was in Castlebay.

Marine Sightings: A small pod of Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off Ardivachar this afternoon.

25th April:

North Uist: The 5 Dotterel are still in the field north-east of the coastal car park on Baleshare. 40 - 50 Pink-footed Geese flew north at Griminish.

South Uist: A Common Redpoll was in South Glendale.

Barra: 4 Hawfinch were reported from the island today with 1 in Northbay (seen to fly off high north); 1 in Castle Bay and 2 at Nask.

24th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck is still at Loch Tiumpan. A juvenile Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: A 3rd winter Iceland Gull was on Loch Sandary this afternoon. A male Common Scoter flew north past Aird an Runair this afternoon and 40 White Wagtails were along the shore there.

Benbecula: A Garganey was on Coot Loch.

South Uist: A Snow Bunting was at Ardvule this morning.

Barra: The Kumlien's Gull was at Craigston. A Whinchat was seen at Cuithir and 2 Cuckoos were in Glen.

23rd April:

Lewis: 4 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: 5 Dotterel were on Baleshare in the field just north-east of the car park.

South Uist: A Snow Bunting was at Ardvule.

Barra: 2 Mandarins were at Loch Tangasdale. The juvenile Kumlien's Gull was at Craigston.

22nd April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Tiumpan.

Barra: 2 drake Mandarins were at Tangusdale.

Insects: 2 Ruddy Highflyer, 2 Early Tooth-striped, 3 Grey Pine Carpets, 2 Brown Silver-line, 10 Clouded Drab, Glaucous Shears and a Carpatolechia proximella were trapped at North Loch Eynort. In South Glendale 1 female Emperor Moth, 1 Powdered Quaker, 1 Brown Silver-line, 2 Red Chestnut, 1 Striped Twin-spot Carpet and an Acleris hyemana were also caught. A Red Amdiral and 2 Peacock butterflies were seen in Carinish today.

21st April:

North Uist: A Corncrake was calling at Balemore this morning.

South Uist: 300+ Brent Geese flew north-west off Peninerine this morning.

20th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Tiumpan.

North Uist: 7 immature Iceland Gulls, a juvenile Glaucous Gull and 3 Whimbrel were at Rubh' Arnal. 4 Whimbrel were along the shore in Carinish.

19th April:

Lewis: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: A Glaucous Gull was at Hosta

South Uist: A Common Redpoll was at Carnan.

Barra: A Snow Bunting flew north over Bruernish.

Insects: A Green-veined White butterfly was seen in Carinish.

18th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Tiumpan. 2 Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour.

Benbecula: A Little Tern was seen at Gramsdale this afternoon.

South Uist: Birds flying south at Ardvule this morning including 47 Fulmars, 48 Manx Shearwaters, 1 Little Tern, 4 Arctic Terns, 1 Arctic Skua, 83 Gannets, 2 Red-throated Divers, 9 Razorbills, 1 Puffin, 1 Black Guillemot and 12 Auk while a Great Skua flew north. 206 Black-tailed Godwits and a Sand Martin were also present. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Stoneybridge and 2 Whimbrel were at Ard Mhichael.

17th April:

Lewis: 2 Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour. A Hawfinch was seen at Giosla. The drake Ring-necked Duck was on Loch Tiumpan.

St. Kilda: A Glaucous Gull was seen on Hirta today.

 

16th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck and Slavonian Grebe are still on Loch Tiumpan. 4 Black-tailed Godwits and a Swallow were at Loch Branahuie. 2 Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour.

Benbecula: A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull was in Stinky Bay.

South Uist: 2 Lesser Scaup were reported from West Loch Ollay. Over 100 Black-tailed Godwits were at Ardvule and 300+ were at the north end of South Uist between Loch an't-Saile and Loch Bee.

Barra: The juvenile Kumlien's Gull was at Borve.

Marine Sightings: A Minke Whale, 6 Harbour Porpoise, 2 Risso's Dolphins and a small pod of White-beaked Dolphins were seen off Tiumpan Head this morning.

 

15th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck and Slavonian Grebe are still on Loch Tiumpan.

Harris: 2 Common Sandpipers were at Meavaig.

North Uist: A Whimbrel, 4 White-fronted Geese, 4 Pink-footed Geese and around 800 Barnacle Geese were at Scolpaig.

South Uist: A Whimbrel was at Howmore. 3 Sand Martins were on Drimsdale machair. A female Scaup was on Loch Hallan.

Insects: An Emperor Moth was seen at Scolpaig.

14th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch Tiumpan; plus the summer plumage Slavonian Grebe.

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup and a drake Ring-necked Duck were seen on Loch Bee this morning from the southern side of the causeway. The Iceland Gull is still on the beach at Ard Mhicheal.

13th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch Tiumpan; along with the Slavonian Grebe.

North Uist: 2 Chiffchaffs were at Sctovein, Grimsay.

Benbecula: An immature Glaucous Gull was on Loch Mor this afternoon.

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup was seen on Loch Bee this morning. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Stoneybridge. An Avocet was on the Howmore River.

Insects: 3 Early Grey, a Grey Birch, Early Tooth-striped, Ruddy Highflyer, 1 Brindled Pug, 4 Double-striped Pugs and an Agonopterix ocellana were caight at North Loch Eynort. 3 Early Grey, 1 Red Sword-grass, 1 Powdered Quaker, a Double-striped Pug and an Agonopterix ocellana were trapped in South Glendale. 3 Red Sword-grass and a Dark Sword-grass were caught in Carinish.

12th April:

Lewis: The drake Ring-necked Duck is still on Loch Tiumpan; a summer plumage Slavonian Grebe is also present.

St. Kilda: The female Snowy Owl was on Hirta.

North Uist: 2 Cackling Geese were at Balelone and another Cackling Goose was on the west side of Vallay. Over 2,000 Barnacle Geese are still between Balelone and the west side of Vallay. A female Marsh Harrier flew north-east over the south end of the Committee Road early afternoon and what was presumably another was seen over Balelone, where it flew off to the south-east. A Willow Warbler was singing in Carinish this evening. A Corncrake was calling by Loch Sandary this evening.

Benbecula: A Glaucous Gull was in Culla Bay.

South Uist: A female Lesser Scaup and 6 Scaup were on the west side of Loch Bee - viewed from the north end of the causeway. 330 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch an t'Saile. 1,080 Golden Plover were counted on the Range and a pair of Pintail were at the south-west end of Loch Bee. An Avocet was also seen at the south-west end of Loch Bee. A Chiffchaff was in Howmore. 3 Lesser Scaups are still on West Loch Ollay.

11th April:

Lewis: A drake Ring-necked Duck was at Loch Tiumpan. An Iceland Gull was in Stornoway harbour.

St. Kilda: The female Snowy Owl was on Hirta.

Harris: 42 Barnacle Geese ( flew south-west) and 80 Pink-footed Geese flew north over Northton this morning.

North Uist: 4 - 500 Pink-footed Geese flew north-west over Loch Euphort this morning. 100 Pink-footed Geese were resting on Vallay this afternoon.

South Uist: 28 Black-tailed Godwits were on the flood at LA2, on the Range. A pair of Pintail were in the south-west corner of Loch Bee. 50 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Ardvule and a Chiffchaff was at the point.

Barra: The Kumlien's Gull was at Borve and a Willow Warbler was on the island.

10th April:

Lewis: 5 Snow Buntings were at the Butt.

Large movement of geese over Uist today with 1,000's of Barnacle Geese and Pink-footed Geese heading north-west.

North Uist: Large numbers of migratoty Barnacle Geese dropped in around the north-west corner of North Uist; especially around the Grimiinish area. A Cackling Goose was on the west side of Vallay. 2 Cackling Geese were at Aird an Runair. A Glaucous Gull was seen at Traigh Iar, Balranald. 6 Iceland Gulls and juvenile Glaucous Gull were between Rubh' Arnal and Kyles Paible.

South Uist: An Iceland Gull was on the beach at Ard Mhichael. 3 Lesser Scaup were on West Loch Ollay this evening; also a Little Egret going to roost there. 2 Great Skuas were hunting Wigeon on Loch Ardvule.

9th April:

Lewis: A 3rd cal yr and 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: 100 Pink-footed Geese flew north over Paible this morning. 10 White-fronted Geese were at Loch Scarie. 2 Cackling Geese were at Aird an Runair whilst a flock of 28 White-fronted Geese and 6 Greylags flew north-west there. A Cackling Goose was at Griminish.

 

8th April:

North Uist: 19 Greylags Geese flew high north over Carinish this morning.

7th April:

North Uist: 2 Iceland Gulls, a Glaucous Gull and 112 Brent Geese were seen at Rubh' Arnal.

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup and 7 Scaup are on west Loch Bee (viewed from north end of causeway; also a drake Ring-necked Duck there. 104+ Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch an t-Saile. An adult Glaucous Gull was in North Bay (Mol Mor). A Little Egret was at West Loch Ollay. 2 Great Skuas flew north past Ardvule this morning.

6th April:

North Uist: A Cackling Goose was along the west side of Loch Sandary. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Balranald; a Great Skua also flew north there this afternoon.

South Uist: An adult Glaucous Gull was at Ardivachar along with 5 Black-tailed Godwits. 2 Little Egrets (including the Welsh ringed birds) were near Hebridean Jewellery in the morning.

5th April:

North Uist: 46 White-fronted Geese were on Baleshare today.

South Uist: A Swallow was seen along the dunes at Howmore this evening.

Barra: The juvenile Kumlien's Gull was seen at Tangasdale.

4th April:

Lewis: A pair of Pintail were on Loch Stiapabhat. 400 Pink-footed Geese were on the machair at Fivepenny.

South Uist: A Little Egret was at the north end of Loch Bee this afternoon.

3rd April:

Lewis: 3 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour. 3 Snow Buntings were at Tiumpan Head. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Loch Branahuie.

Benbecula: An adult Glaucous Gull was in Stinky Bay; also a juvenile Glaucous x Herring Gull there.

South Uist: A female Lesser Scaup and 7 Scaup are on Loch Bee (viewed from north end of causeway). A Little Egret was at the north end of Loch Bee late morning. The Great White Egret was seen flying towards Loch Grogarry from Stilligarry.

 

2nd April:

North Uist: 2 Cackling Geese were at Aird an Runair, Balranald today; also 160+ Pink-footed Geese flew north-west there early afternoon (in 2 flocks of 40+ and 120). 9 Pintail were on Loch nam Feithean.

Benbecula: The Welsh ringed Little Egret was seen at Loch Mor today.

South Uist: 2 Lesser Scaup are on West Loch Ollay. A juvenile Iceland Gull was on Loch Bornish. 120 Black-tailed Godwits were in the south bay at Ardvule.

Insects: 5 male Belted Beauties were seen at Balranald this afternoon.

1st April:

Lewis: 3 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway harbour.

North Uist: A Cackling Goose was at Balemore.

Barra: The juvenile Kumlien's Gull was at Craigston with a juvenile Iceland Gull.
