Lewis: The drake American Wigeon is still at Loch Stiapabhat and the female Ruff was at Fivepenny.

30th May:

Lewis: A Quail was heard calling in Bayble today, from croftland behind beach.

St. Kilda: A male Snow Bunting was seen on Hirta today.

North Uist: A Curlew Sandpiper was by Loch Mhic Coan, Baleshare.

South Uist: A Whitethroat and Garden Warbler were in South Glendale today.

Insects: A Beautiful Yellow Underwing and Argent & Sable were in South Glendale today. 2 Nut-tree Tussocks, 3 Common White Waves, 2 Brimstone Moths, 2 Scalloped Hazels, 3 Common Pugs and 2 Ruddy Highflyers were trapped in Druidibeg last night.

29th May:

Lewis: A male Golden Oriole was at Erisiadar (garden no.5) just south of the Bernera Bridge at 15:30 today. 2 Slavonian Grebes were at the south end of Loch Roag. A Pectoral Sandpiper, a female Ruff and the drake American Wigeon were seen at Loch Stiapabhat today.

North Uist: A Quail was flushed from the machair at Sollas this morning. 2 Glaucous Gull (2nd and 3rd cal yr) are on the beach at Aird an Runair. A Spotted Flycatcher was at Lnagass Lodge today. 2 male Ruff were by Loch nam Feithean. The drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A Spotted Flycatcher was at Creagorry this evening.

South Uist: A 3rd cal yr Iceland Gull and 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull are at Ardivachar. A Blackcap was singing at South Loch Eynort today.

28th May:

North Uist: The 1st yr Glaucous Gull is still on the beach at Aird an Runair. 2 male Ruff remain at Balranald. The drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary. A Spotted Flycatcher was at Trumisgarry.

Benbecula: A 2nd cy Iceland Gull was at Borve this evening.

South Uist: A Spotted Flycatcher and Garden Warbler were in South Glendale today.

Insects: A Small Chocolate-tip was netted on Eriskay in the afternoon.

Other: A large bat, thought to be a Noctule was found on a cleit on Hirta, St. Kilda today.

27th May:

Harris: 2 Pomarine Skuas were seen heading north from the Uig - Tarbet ferry this morning about 4 miles east of Tarbet.

North Uist: A Blyth's Reed Warbler was singing in the private garden behind Ocean View Guest House today (view from co-op or main road). A drake Garganey was on Loch Brusda, Berneray. A flock of 67 Red-breasted Mergansers were off Grimsay this morning. A 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Aird an Runair this morning.

South Uist: A 2nd yr Iceland Gull and a 1st summer Glaucous Gul are at Ardivachar. A Spotted Flycatcher, Blackcap and Chiffchaff are at North Loch Eynort.

Insects: 94 Brown Silver-line, 4 Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet, 6 Flame Carpet, 3 Common Carpet, 2 Garden Carpet, a Striped Twin-spot Carpet, Common Pug, 3 Grey Pug, 2 Satyr Pug, 4 Narrow-winged Pug, Scalloped Hazel, Dark Sword-grass, 2 Pebble Prominent, 5 White Ermine, 4 Buff Ermine, Small Angle Shades, 3 Knot Grass, 12 Shears, 4 Broom Moth, Pale-shoulder Brocade. and a Diamond-back Moth were trapped in South Glendale last night. A Brimstone moth was trapped at Leurbost last night.

Marine Sightings: 12 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off Ardivachar today.

26th May:

Lewis: A Turtle Dove was at Kirvick, Carloway this morning. 2 Little Stints were on the machair at Fivepenny today.

North Uist: A male Ruff was at Balranald. The drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary.

South Uist: Belated news of a Semipalmated Sandpiper and a Little Stint were on the shore at Ardvule on the 24th May. A drake Garganey was at Smerclate. A 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull is at Ardivachar. A Wood Sandpiper was at Loch an't-Saile. 2 drake Garganey and a female Yellow Wagtail were at Loch an Duin Mhoir. A male and female Garganey were at Balgarva.

Insects: 2 Poplar Lutestring, Herald, Scalloped Hazel, Buff Ermine, Foxglove Pug, 2 Brimstone Moth, Common White Wave,  Grey Pine Carpet, Flame Carpet and 3 Brown Silver-line were trapped in South Glendale last night; plus a Red Admiral there today.

25th May:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon is on Loch Stiapabhat and the Snow Bunting was near the Butt.

North Uist: A 1st summer Glaucous Gull was on the machair at Balemore. The drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary and a Spotted Flycatcher was seen nearby. A Curlew Sandpiper and 2nd yr Glaucous Gull were on Loch Paible.

Benbecula: A drake Garganey is on Loch Fada / Mor.

South Uist: The Turtle Dove is still in South Glendale.

Insects: 2 Flame Carpet, a Grey Scalloped Bar, 6 Brown Silver-line, 2 Satyr Pugs, Broom Moth, 2 Dark Sword-grass, Glaucous Shears, 2 Shears, a Sweet Gale and Hebrew Character were trapped in South Glendale last night.

24th May:

Lewis: A Snow Bunting was near the Butt whilst the drake American Wigeon and a Swift were still at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: 4 Ruff were lekking behind the cemetery at Balranald this morning. The 3 White-winged Black Terns remained at Loch nam Feithean whilst a drake Garganey and 4 Black-tailed Godwits were present. A drake Scaup, 8 Black-tailed Godwits and a Spotted Flycatcher are at Loch Sandary. A Whitethroat was singing at Sidinish, Loch Euphort. A 2nd yr Glaucous Gull was in fields at Baleloch.

Benbecula: A drake Garganey is at Loch Fada / Mor.

South Uist: 2 Little Stints are at Ardvule this morning whilst a Long-tailed Duck was off-shore and a Chiffchaff was in the grass there. A Whitethroat is singing at Loch Eynort. The Turtle Dove and a Whitethroat are in South Glendale. A Whitethroat is in Druidibeg plantation.

23rd May:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon and a Swift were at Loch Stiapabhat today.

North Uist: The 3 White-winged Black Terns are still at Loch nam Feithean along with a drake Garganey and 4 Ruff (3 males). A Little Stint and Curlew Sandpiper were seen in a field holding cows near Balranald visitor centre today. The Curlew Sandpiper was in the field at Tigharry. 8 Black-tailed Godwits and a drake Scaup are at Loch Sandary. A female Marsh Harrier was seen near the junction to Griminish. A Turtle Dove flew across the road at Claddach Kirkibost. A Long-tailed Skua flew north past Aird an Runair at 19:50.

Benbecula: A male Snowy Owl was reported flying over Creagorry heading inland just after 17:00. A drake Garganey was on Loch Fada today.

South Uist: A Black Tern was reported past Ardvule. The Turtle Dove is still in South Glendale. A male Whitethroat is at North Loch Eynort. The drake Garganey is still at Smerclate.

22nd May:

Lewis: A drake American Wigeon was reported from Loch Stiapabhat today. A pair of Great Tits are nesting in the Castle Grounds at Marybank again this year.

North Uist: The 3 White-winged Black Terns and an immature Little Gull are still at Loch nam Feithean and 4 Ruff (3 males and a female) were lekking in the area; also 4 Black-tailed Godwits were present. The Curlew Sandpiper was still in a field at Tigharry today. 8 Black-tailed Godwits and the drake Scaup are on Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A Dunlin resembling the North American race (hudsonia) was in Stinky Bay today.

South Uist: The Turtle Dove is still in South Glendale. A Spotted Flycatcher, Whitethroat and Chiffchaff are at North Loch Eynort.

21st May:

North Uist: 3 White-winged Black Terns are at Loch nam Feithean today along with an immature Little Gull, female Marsh Harrier, 2 Ruff and a drake Garganey. 2 Glaucous Gulls and a juvenile Iceland Gull were at Balranald. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Tigharry. The drake Scaup is still at Loch Sandary. A Pomarine Skua was seen off Baleshare. A House Martin was over Loch na Reivil, Hougharry this evening. A Wood Sandpiper was reported from Carinish.

South Uist: A drake Garganey was at Smerclate. The Turtle Dove is in South Glendale. A Swift was at Howmore this morning. The 2nd winter Iceland Gull was at Ardivachar.

20th May:

North Uist: 2 White-winged Black Terns are on Loch nam Feithean (still present this evening); 2 male Ruff are also in the area and a 1st yr Little Gull dropped in briefly this afternoon. A 1st yr Iceland Gull and a 1st yr Glaucous Gull were on Balranald. A female Marsh Harrier was seen over the reed bed at Balranald. A drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary. A male Golden Oriole was in Lochmaddy today (Bird Guides). A Turtle Dove was seen in Carinish.

Benbecula: A female Common Scoter and a Long-tailed Duck are on Culla Bay. A drake Garganey was on Loch Mor this morning.

South Uist: A Turtle Dove and Common Redpoll are in South Glendale this morning. The 2nd winter Iceland Gull is still at Ardivachar. A Grasshopper Warbler was singing at East Kilbride this evening.

Insects: A Painted Lady and Red Admiral were seen at Ardivachar around lunch time today.

19th May:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon was on Loch Stiapabhat again this afternoon.

North Uist: A Little Stint, 2 Black-tailed Godwits and 2 drake Garganey were at Loch Brusda, Berneray today. A Long-tailed Duck was also off the north-east coast of Berneray. A female Marsh Harrier came in off the sea from the south near Rubha Arnal this afternoon and headed towards Loch Sandary. A 1st yr Glaucous Gull was on the machair at Balemore. A 1st yr Iceland Gull was in fields near Tigharry. A juvenile Glaucous Gull, a juvenile Iceland Gull and a Curlew Sandpiper were at Balranald. A Grasshopper Warbler is singing at Druim Dubh near Bayhead.

South Uist: A Spotted Flycatcher was in South Glendale. The 2nd winter Iceland Gull is still at Ardivachar along with 3 Knot. An Iceland Gull was seen at Stoneybridge. A Common Scoter was off Ardvule in the morning.

Insects: A Red Admiral was in South Glendale today whilst last night 2 Striped Twin-spot Carpets, 4 Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpets, a Flame Carpet, 30 Brown Silver-line, 3 Satyr Pugs, a Narrow-winged Pug, 4 Puss Moths, a Pebble Prominent, Broom Moth, Shears, Small Angle Shades, Dark Sword-grass and 3 Red Chestnut were trapped.

18th May:

Lewis: A Stone Curlew is on the machair by Loch Stiapabhat this afternoon  (first record for the Outer Hebrides). The drake American Wigeon was on Loch Stiapabhat this morning.

North Uist: A Little Stint, Black-tailed Godwit and a pair of Garganey are at the north end of Loch Brusda, Berneray.

Marine Sightings: A Basking Shark was showing well off Balranald this morning. 12 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off the Butt this afternoon for at least half an hour.

17th May:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon is still on Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: A pair of Garganey are at the north end of Loch Brusda, Berneray. 2 Little Stints were at Loch Paible today.

Benbecula: A drake Garganey was on Loch Mor this evening.

South Uist: A Lesser Yellowlegs is on the flooded machair at Daliburgh (to the west of the tarred track heading towards the cemetery. A drake Garganey is at Smerlcate.

16th May:

Lewis: A drake American Wigeon was on Loch Stiapabhat in the evening. 6 Tree Sparrows are still in Port of Ness.

North Uist: A quiet day off Aird an Runair despite the gales with around 6 Pomarine Skuas and 3 Long-tailed Skuas seen heading north as well as 3 Whimbrel. A 2nd yr Iceland Gull was also on the beach at Balranald in the afternoon.

South Uist: 2 Dotterel are still at the southern end of the Range at West Gerinish.

Marine Sightings: A young Minke Whale became stranded and died on the beach at Aird an Runair this morning.

15th May:

Lewis: 6 Tree Sparrows are still in Port of Ness. 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls were seen near the tip in Stornoway.

North Uist: At least 15 Long-tailed Skuas and 33 Pomarine Skuas flew north at Aird an Runair today as well as 13 Bonxies and 9 Whimbrel. A 1st yr Iceland Gull flew south and a 2nd yr was on the beach at Aird an Runair around mid-day. A drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary. 3 Black-tailed Godwits were on Loch nam Feithean.

South Uist: 2 Dotterel are still on the Range at West Gerinish; also 32 Whimbrel and a Black-tailed Godwit. the 2nd yr Iceland Gull is still at Ardivachar. 5 Arctic Skuas and a Great Skua flew north off Ardvule this morning and 3 Common Scoters flew south.

14th May:

Lewis: A juvenile Iceland Gull was on Stornoway tip 6 Tree Sparrows were in Port of Ness and a 2nd yr Iceland Gull was near the Butt.

North Uist: 34 Pomarine Skuas and 5 Long-tailed Skuas flew north off Aird an Runair this afternoon with a single Long-tailed Skua north there at 10:30 am. 2 Ruff were by Loch Hougharry. A Sandwich Tern was off Berneray and a female Pintail was on Loch Brusda.

Benbecula: 2 drake Garganey were on Loch Fada.

South Uist: A male Black Redstart was seen at Ardivachar yesterday whilst the 2nd winter Iceland Gull was there today and 2 Dotterel were just south on the Range.

Insects: 2 Satyr Pugs, 2 Striped Twin-spot Carpets, 17 Brown Silver-line, 3 Puss Moths, a Pebble Prominent, 2 Knot Grass, a Shears, Glaucous Shears, 3 Red Chestnut, a Clouded Drab, White Ermine and a Spectacle were trapped in South Glendale last night.13 Ruddy Highflyers, a Water Carpet, Scalloped Hazel, Grey Pine Carpet, Brown Silver-line and 4 Red Chestnuts were trapped at Druidibeg.

13th May:

Lewis: An immature Iceland Gull was near the Butt today. 2 Black-tailed Godwits were by Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: 3 Brent Geese flew north at Aird an Runair.

Benbecula: At least 1 drake Garganey and 2 Black-tailed Godwits are at Loch Fada / Mor.

South Uist: An immature Iceland Gull and immature Glaucous Gull are at Ardivachar. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Ardvule. A Blackcap was singing at North Loch Eynort. A Whitethroat was near Ludag.

12th May:

North Uist: The Snowy Owl was between Sollas and Grenitote this morning but wasn't seen in the afternoon. A 1st yr Ring-billed Gull was at Balranald. A pair of Garganey were on Loch Brusda, Berneray today.

Benbecula: 2 drake Garganey and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were seen on Loch Fada with another Black-tailed Godwit on Loch Mor.

South Uist: A 2nd yr Iceland Gull was at Ardivachar along with the hybrid Glaucous Gull.

11th May:

North Uist: The Snowy Owl was on the machair between Sollas and Grenitote today. 3 Pomarine Skuas flew past Aird an Runair at 13:00. A Dotterel was at Paiblesgarry but flew towards Knockintorran. A Wood Warbler was singing at Callernish House, Griminish.

Benbecula: A Lesser Yellowlegs was at the west end of Loch Fada. 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls and a drake Garganey were reported from Loch Mor this evening. A 1st yr Iceland Gull was in Stinky Bay briefly this morning and a 2nd yr Glaucous Gull was at Nunton Steadings.

South Uist: An immature Iceland Gull, hybrid Glaucous Gull and 40+ Whimbrel were at Ardivachar; a Curlew Sandpiper was also reported from here. A male Blackcap was singing at Loch Eynort.

Insects: 9 Grey Pine Carpets, a May Highflyer, a Water Carpet, Garden Carpet, Brimstone Moth, Golden-rod Pug, 4 Brown Silver-line, a Clouded Drab, Hebrew Character, 3 Red Chestnut and a Dark Sword-grass were trapped at North Loch Eynort last night.

10th May:

North Uist: A Snowy Owl was on the machair north-west of the picnic site at Grenitote today. A male Whitethroat was singing near the Sponish Suspension Bridge, Lochmaddy. A male Blackcap was at Callernish House, Griminish. A drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary and around 40 Whimbrel were in an adjacent field. The 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Claddach Kirkibost. The Grasshopper Warbler is still at Druim Dubh this evening. A Whinchat was at Scotvein, Grimsay briefly in the afternoon.

South Uist: A pair of Pintail are on Bornish machair.

Insects: 7 Puss Moth, a Striped Twin-spot Carpet, 5 Dark-barred Twin-spot carpet, 2 Flame Carpet, 25 Brown Silver-line and a Foxglove Pug were trapped at South Glendale last night. A Pebble Prominent and Dark Sword-grass were caught at Carinish.

9th May:

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose is still in Carinish. 2 Pomarine Skuas flew north at Aird an Runair around 11 am. Also a 2nd yr Glaucous Gull north as well as several Arctic and Great Skuas. The 1st yr Glaucous Gull was still at Claddach Kirkibost. The Grasshopper Warbler was singing at Druim Dubh again tonight.

Benbecula: 2 drake Garganey were on Loch Fada today.

South Uist: The drake Garganey was still on the flood on Bornish machair as well as 2 pairs of Gadwall, 5 Pintail and a female Ruff. 2 Cuckoos were in Bornish in the evening.

Barra: An Iceland Gull was seen in Castle Bay today.

Marine Sightings: 6 - 8 Bottle-nosed Dolphins were off Aird an Runair late morning and much of the afternoon.

8th May:

Lewis: A Cuckoo is calling in Carloway.

North Uist: 2 Pomarine Skuas flew north off Aird an Runair this morning; also 5 Brent Geese here later in the day. The 2nd yr Ring-billed Gull, 3 Scaup (2 males and a female), 150 Whimbrel and 6 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Sandary. Cuckoos were seen along the Committee Road and near Griminish. The 1st yr Glaucous Gull is still at Claddach Kirkibost.

Benbecula: A Cuckoo was on Wiay. A Wood Sandpiper and 2 drake Garganey were at the west end of Loch Fada this evening.

South Uist: A Green-winged Teal and Iceland Gull were at the mouth of the Howmore River yesterday.

Marine sightings: A large ray (4 ft across) was found washed up on Shawbost beach today.

7th May:

Lewis: A House Martin and 2 Mute Swans were at Loch Tiumpan today.

North Uist: The 2nd yr Ring-billed Gull and 2 Scaup were at Loch Sandary again today. 200 Whimbrel were also in the fields around Loch Sandary. A Grasshopper Warbler was singing at Druim Dubh, Paible again last night. 15 Pomarine Skuas flew north off Aird an Runair this afternoon.

Benbecula: A drake Garganey was on Loch Mor and a second drake was on Loch Fada.

South Uist: A 2nd yr Iceland Gull was at Ardivachar. Around 100 Whimbrel were on the Range and a Black-tailed Godwit was in the south-west corner of Loch Bee. 2 Blackcaps were singing at North Loch Eynort. 2 males and a female Pintail were on the flood at Bornish machair. A Chiffchaff was singing at Eochar this morning. A Chiffchaff and 4 redpolls were in Carnan.

6th May:

North Uist: A 2nd yr Ring-billed Gull was at Loch Sandary this morning as well as 2 Scaup (male and female) and around 40 - 50 Whimbrel. At least 89 Whimbrel were between Balemore and Loch Sandary in the afternoon. 6 Brent Geese were at Aird an Runair and 20 Pink-footed Geese were at Balranald. 76+ Barnacle Geese were on Vallay. A single Black-tailed Godwit was still by Loch Mhic Coan, Baleshare this morning. The 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Claddach Kirkibost.

Benbecula: A 2nd yr Glaucous Gull was on Loch na Liana Moire this evening.

5th May:

North Uist: 6 Scaup (3 males and 3 females) were on Loch Sandary today; also 27 Whimbrel in a field nearby. 118+ Whimbrel in the Paible area. A 1st yr Glaucous Gull is at Claddach Kirkibost. 9 pale-bellied Brent Geese are on the beach at Aird an Runair. 20 Pink-footed Geese and a Barnacle Goose are at Balranald. 7 Ruff (including 6 males) were by Loch na Paisg, Baleshare this afternoon where they were intermittently displaying. 20 Black-tailed Godwits were by Loch Mhic Coan, Baleshare. A Grasshopper Warbler was singing last night from a garden at Druim Dubh near Paible. 7 Whimbrel were at Carinish this morning.

4th May:

Lewis: A Ring Ouzel was at the Butt whilst 165 Pink-footed Geese, a Greenland White-front and 5 Barnacle Geese were by Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: A House Martin was over Loch na Reivil, Hougharry this afternoon. A drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary. 2 Pomarine Skuas flew north off Aird an Runair just before 10 am; also 10 Bonxies, 4 Arctic Skuas, 6 Brent Geese and 10 Whimbrel heading north (06:40 - 12:00). 7 Brent Geese were on the shore at Aird an Runair this morning and a 1st yr Iceland Gull flew south. A 1st yr Glaucous Gull was at Claddach Kirkibost.

Benbecula: 2 drake Garganey are on Loch Fada. 6 Whimbrel were at Aird and 3 near Stinky Bay.

South Uist: The drake Garganey, 5 Pintail and 20 Black-tailed Godwits were on the flooded machair at Bornish. 46 Whimbrel were at Boisdale, 8 at Kilpheder, 38 at Loch Hallan, 14 at Ardvule, 12 at West loch Ollay and 27 at Peninerine.

3rd May:

Lewis: A Turtle Dove flew north at Port of Ness; also there a Blackcap, Willow Warbler and 2 Chiffchaffs. 115 Pink-footed Geese and 5 Barnacle Geese were by Loch Stiapabhat. 26 Whimbrels were at the Butt.

North Uist: A Swift was seen over Bayhead around 15:00.

Benbecula: 4 Black-tailed Godwits are at Coot Loch. A 3rd yr Glaucous Gull flew south and a 2nd yr Iceland Gull flew north at Stinky Bay this morning.

South Uist: 5 Pintail (3 male and 2 females) are on the flooded machair at Bornish. 60+ Whimbrel are on the Range.

2nd May:

Lewis: The Chiffchaff was still at Doune Braes Hotel, Carloway this morning. A female Goldeneye is on Loch Branahuie. 8 Snow Buntings and 36 Whimbrel were at the Butt today.

Harris: A Sedge Warbler, Chiffchaff and Cuckoo were singing in Northton this afternoon.

Sound of Harris: An immature Surf Scoter and 6 Common Scoters were seen this afternoon (from the ferry).

North Uist: A Pink-footed Goose is in Carinish. 3 Whimbrel flew north at Aird an Runair.

Benbecula: 2 Whimbrel and a Black-tailed Godwit were on the shore at Stinky Bay; also 3 Gadwall and 14 Long-tailed Ducks were on the sea here.

1st May:

Lewis: A 1st yr Iceland Gull was seen in Stornoway today opposite the council buildings. 11 Whimbrel were seen at the Butt today (including a leucistic bird). A Chiffchaff is still singing at the Doune Braes Hotel, Carloway.

North Uist: A House Martin and a Whinchat were seen around Balranald with a drake Common Scoter and 15 Pink-footed Geese heading north.

South Uist: A Little Egret was at Loch nan Caoleann, Daliburgh. A drake Goosander was seen at Loch Eynort.
