31st October:

Lewis: 8 Sooty Shearwaters, 32 Pomarine Skuas, 2 Great Skuas, 57 Kittiwakes and 110 auks flew west past the Butt in a 2 hour seawatch this morning. 28 Barnacle Geese were on Loch Stiapabhat and 20 flew high south-eastwards.

North Uist: A Garden Warbler, 2 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff were in Lochmaddy with 5 Whooper Swans heading south and a 1st winter male Scaup on the edge of the village. 2 Bramblings and a male Blackcap are in Carinish.

South Uist: A Little Egret was by Hebridean Jewellery this afternoon. 19 Great Northern Divers, 6 Red-throated Divers, 38 Barnacle Geese and 3 Shelduck flew south at Ardvule this morning. 2 Blackcaps, a Chiffchaff, Blue Tit and a Woodcock were in Bornish; also 25 Whooper Swans south here around lunchtime.

Insects: A female Gem and 2 Rusty-dot Pearls came to house lights last night in Carinish.

30th October:

North Uist: A Brambling was in Carinish.

South Uist: At Ardvule this morning southerly passage included 19 Red-throated Divers, 12 Great Northern Divers, 74 Gannets, 1 Sooty Shearwater and 57 Snipe. A Brambling and Blackcap are in South Glendale.

Barra: The Red-breasted Flycatcher and 3 Blackcaps are still at Brevig. A Garden Warbler and 2 Blackcaps are at Northbay. A drake American Wigeon is at Eoligarry.

 

29th October:

Lewis: A male Hen Harrier was seen at Loch an Ach. 6 Waxwings were on Springfield Road, Stornoway. 17 Snow Buntings came in off the sea at the Butt. A Chiffchaff and 15 Redwings were in Port of Ness.

North Uist: 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Carinish this morning and 23 Whooper Swans dropped onto the North Ford off there. 3 Pintail are on Baleshare. The White-throated Sparrow was reported from Lochmaddy again today; also 2 Blackcaps, 40 Fieldfare and 70 Redwings present. A Little Egret was at Ardheisker today.

Benbecula: 10 White-fronted Geese flew south over Balivanich.

South Uist: 2 Whooper Swans came in off sea at Ardvule and 11 Whooper Swans flew south out to sea at Kilbride. Single Blackcap, Brambling and Water Rail in South Glendale. 20 Lapland Buntings, 2 Jack Snipe and 5 Black-tailed Godwits were on Eochar machair. 2 immature Scaup were on Loch Bee.

Barra: The Red-breasted Flycatcher is still at Brevig. A Garden Warbler was at North Bay and a few Whoopers were seen over the island.

Insects: 13 moths / 9 species were caught in South Glendale including an Autumn Green Carpet, 1 Feathered Thorn, 1 Silver Y, 3 Angle Shades, 1 Rosy Rustic, 1 Brindled Ochre and micro moths Blastobasis lacticolella, Agonopterix subpropinquella and 3 Acleris hyemana.

28th October:

Lewis: 2 Waxwings were in Willowglen Road, Stornoway. 14 Whooper Swans came in off the sea at the Butt. 5 Snow Buntings, a Jack Snipe and a Purple Sandpiper were also near the llighthouse. 160 Redwings and a Brambling were in the Eoropie - Skigersta area.

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull flew north at Aird an Runair; also a Lapland Bunting on the machair there. 4 Coots are on Loch nam Feithean. A female Scaup and a Coot are on Loch Sandary. 2 Bramblings are in Carinish. 12 Whooper Swans flew south over Kallin around 11 am and 6 flew south over Scotvein, Grimsay shortly after.

South Uist: 12 Whooper Swans came in off the sea at Ardvule this morning. 2 Bramblings and 3 Blackcaps were in South Glendale. Around 30 Brent Geese flew north at Lochboisdale this morning.

Barra: The Red-breasted Flycatcher is still at Brevig. Also a Yellow-browed Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff and a handful of Bramblings and Blackcaps are the island. 37 Brent Geese are at Traigh Mhor.

Insects: 2 Angle Shades and a Silver Y were seen on Buddleia this evening in South Glendale.

 

27th October:

North Uist: An adult Pomarine Skua fkew north-west along Baleshare beach this afternoon; also a Lapland Bunting and 3 Pintail present.

 

26th October:

Lewis: 14 Waxwings were in Willowglen Road, Stornoway this morning.

South Uist: Ardvule today produced 491 Gannets, 10 Red-throated Divers, 46 Great Northern Divers, 11 Long-tailed Ducks, 1 Black Guillemot and 59 Kittiwakes heading south. Also 3 Black-tailed Godwits and a Yellow-browed Warbler present. 2 female Common Scoters were on Loch Bornish. 2 Bramblings and 2 Blackcaps were in South Glendale. A female Scaup was at the south-west end of Loch Bee.

Barra: The Red-breasted Flycatcher is still at Brevig.

25th October:

South Uist: The juvenile American Golden Plover was seen on Bornish machair again this morning. 3 Blackcaps and 2 Bramblings were in South Glendale today. 2 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Boisdale.

24th October:

North Uist: A Waxwing was at Clachan this morning. 2 Pintail and around 1,000 Barnacle Geese were on Baleshare. A female Blackcap was at Kallin and 2 were in Lochmaddy.

South Uist: A juvenile American Golden Plover was in the south bay at Ardvule and another juvenile American Golden Plover was at Bornish. A Lapland Bunting was at Kildonan. The Blue Tit is still in Bornish along with 2 Blackcaps. A Jack Snipe, 3 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff were at Snishival.

Barra: A Red-breasted Flycatcher, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and 9 Waxwings were on the island.

3rd October:

Lewis: A juvenile Rose-coloured Starling is at Gisla Lodge, Uig and has been for several days. A Yellow-browed Warbler was in Willowglen, Stornoway. Large numbers of Redwings and Fieldfare are in the Castle Grounds with 450 of the former at Marybank and 60 of the latter at Willowglen.

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler was seen by the coastguard station at Balelone this morning. A Wheatear was at Kyles Paible. A female Blackcap and Goldcrest were in Carinish. 2 Blackcaps and 2 Bramblings were in Lochmaddy.

Benbecula: An "Eastern" - type Yellow Wagtail was seen in Balivanich - two breif recordings wagtail 1 wagtail 2. At least 3 Blackcaps and 2 Chiffchaffs were also in Balivanich and a Lapland Bunting flew over. 5 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch. A female Blackcap was at Torlum.

South Uist: At Boisdale - Kilpheder 1 Jack Snipe, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Wheatears, 2 White Wagtails and a juv American Golden Plover on Boisdale machair. 45 Fieldfare, 50 Redwings, a Blackcap and 3 Bramblings were in South Glendale.

Barra: The Red-breasted Flycatcher is still at Brevig and a Waxwing flew over. A Ring Ouzel was in North Bay whilst 4 Yellow-browed Warblers, 15 Blackcaps, 3 Chiffchaffs, 20 Bramblings and 2 Woodcock were around the island. The juvenile Surf Scoter was with 2 Common Scoters between Ardvule and Kildonan. 2 Lapland buntings were also at Ardvule this morning with 41 Barnacle Geese south there. 2 Blackcaps were at Haarsal. A Blackcap and 30 Fieldfare were at Snishival. 7 Blackcaps and 2 Chiffchaffs are at North Loch Eynort. 150 Redwings were at Ormiclate, with 4 Lapland Buntings on the machair there. The Blue Tit is still in the Bornish arae.

Insects:At North Loch Eynort last night 5 Autumn Green Carpet, 1 Grey Pine Carpet and a Common Marbled Carpet were trapped. In South Glendale 2 Angle Shades, 2 Brindled Ochre, 2 Silver Y and a Small Wainscot as well as micros Diamond-back Moth and 2 Agonopterix subpropinquella.

22nd October:

Lewis: A Yellow-browed Warbler, Blackcap and 6 Bramblings were in Port of Ness where a ringtail Hen Harrier came in off the sea to the east in the morning too.

North Uist: A Waxwing, male Crossbill, Yellow-browed Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, 2 Bramblings and 3 Fieldfare were in Lochmaddy. 2 Blackcaps and 2 Bramblings were in Carinish.

Benbecula: A Waxwing was seen at Gramsdale.

South Uist: 40 - 50 Lapland Buntings were at Eochar.

Barra: A Siberian Chiffchaff was at Eoligarry. A Red-breasted Flycatcher, Ring Ouzel and Treecreeper were at Brevig. A Red-breasted Flycatcher was at Castle Bay and 5+ Yellow-browed Warblers were around the island.

21st October:

Lewis: 6 Waxwings were in Port of Ness this morning.

North Uist: A male Blackcap and Goldcrest were in Carinish.

South Uist: At least 6 Lapland Buntings were at Peninerine. A Wheatear was at Smerclate. A Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, 50 Redwing, 3 Fieldfare, a Mistle Thrush and 3 Bramblings were in South Glendale.

Barra: A Red-breasted Flycatcher, Common Rosefinch and a Treecreeper were at Brevig today. A Red-breasted Flycatcher was still in Castle Bay and 4+ Yellow-browed Warblers and a Waxwing were also on the island.

Insects: A Mottled Umber was trapped in South Glendale last night.

20th October:

Lewis: A Yellow-browed Warbler, 8 Bramblings and a Grey Wagtail were in Port of Ness this morning with an additional 6 Blackcaps and 7 Waxwings in the afternoon.

North Uist: A White-throated Sparrow has been reported from Lochmaddy in Dr. Macleods garden. A Lapland Bunting was at Grenitote and a male Blackcap on Berneray.

South Uist: The Surf Scoter was with a single Common Scoter in the south bay at Ardvule; also a Whimbrel present. 2 Common Scoters also flew south here. 3 Bramblings were in South Glendale.

Barra: A Red-breasted Flycatcher was at Glen and another was in Castle Bay; also 7+ Yellow-browed Warblers around the island.

19th October:

Lewis: A Yellow-browed Warbler, 2 Chiffchaffs and 6 Bramblings were in Port of Ness.

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler is still in Carinish; a Waxwing flew south here this morning along with several flocks of Redwings including one flock of around 4 - 500 birds. A Brambling was still on Grimsay.

South Uist: 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 2 Chiffchaffs, a Blackcap, Siskin and lots of Redwings were at North Loch Eynort. Southerly passage off Ardvule included 8 Great Northern Divers, 34 Whooper Swans, 9 Greylag Geese, 431 Barnacle Geese, 25 Pale-bellied Brent, 22 Wigeon while a Great Skua and 3 Common Scoter flew north. The juvenile Surf Scoter still in the south bay with 5 Common Scoter. Also 8 Black-tailed Godwits and 1 Pink-footed Goose present. A further couple of flocks of around 160 Barnacle Geese flew south at Ardvule in the afternoon with one flock containing 3 Pintail. 80 Redwing, 3 Blackcaps and 4 Brambling were in South Glendale. 3 Blackcaps and a Chiffchaff were at Snishival this evening whilst 13 Whooper Swans and 20 Barnacle Geese flew south-east. A Blue Tit, Blackcap and 250 Redwings were in Bornish today. The Little Egret was near Hebridean Jewellery again today.

18th October:

Lewis: A Lesser Whitethroat and 2 male Blackcaps were in the Port of Ness / Skigersta area. 26 Whooper Swans flew south off Port of Ness in the evening.

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler was in Carinish this morning. A Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaffs, 4 Blackcaps and a Brambling were at Langass Lodge; also a couple of small flocks of Barnacle Geese over. Several small flocks of Barnacle Geese were seen heading over the island today. A male Brambling was on Grimsay in the afternoon.

South Uist: 25 Pale-bellied Brents flew south at Ardvule this morning; also a Whimbrel was in the south bay and the Surf Scoter was with 8 Common Scoters offshore. The juv American Golden Plover and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were on Bornish machair. At North Loch Eynort 3 Chiffchaffs, 20 Fieldfare and 2 Pied Flycatchers while 20 Barnacle Geese and 13 Pink-footed Geese flew south. At South Glendale 4 Brambling and 2 Blackcaps while 85 Barnacle Geese flew south. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Ring Ouzel and 3 Blackcaps were at Snishival this evening. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Blue Tit, Blackcap, 2 Fieldfare and 50 Redwings were in Bornish; plus 90 Barnalce Geese south there at 18:20.

Barra: A Waxwing and Tree Sparrow were at Brevig; also 4+ Yellow-browed Warblers still on the island.

17th October:

South Uist: A Little Bunting, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 5 Blackcaps, 4 Chiffchaffs and around 100 Fieldfare were at North Loch Eynort this morning. At Ardvule this morning a southerly passage of 32 Great Northern Divers, 11 Red-throated Divers, 105 Barnacle Geese, 9 Scaup, 4 Long-tailed Ducks, 9 Red-breasted Mergansers, 267 Kittiwakes, 2 Arctic Skuas, 1 Great Skua. 2 Common Scoter flew north and another was in the south bay. A single Wheatear was also present. A Swallow was at Ludag. 4 Bramblings and 3 Blackcaps were in South Glendale.

16th October:

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, 2 Bramblings, A Siskin and 2 Fieldfare were at Langass Lodge this morning. A Treecreeper, 3 Blackcaps, 8 Goldfinch and at least 20 Redwings were at Langass Wood. A Chiffchaff was in Carinish and a Treecreeper this evening. 30+ Fieldfare were at the north end of the Committee Road. A Curlew Sandpiper, 20+ Barnacle Geese, a Chiffchaff, 20 Redwings and 2 Goldfinch were seen at Claddach Vallay. 3 Coot were on Loch nam Feithean and 4 Fieldfare flew east over the loch. A Coot is also on Loch Sandary. 70 Pink-footed Geese flew east over Grimsay around 15:10 today.

South Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler and 20 Goldfinch were in Carnan this afternoon. A Yellow-browed Warbler, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 2 Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcaps and a Woodcock were in North Loch Eynort. A Ring Ouzel was along the Loch Skipport Road. 4 Bramblings, 6 Goldfinch, 3 Blackcaps and 5 Fieldfare were in South Glendale. The juvenile Surf Scoter and 7 Common Scoters were at Ardvule with 4 Barnacle Geese north and 9 Pink-footed Geese on Loch Ardvule; also a Wheatear present. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 4 Brambling and 40 Redwings were at Snishival. 6 Bramblings were at Tharsal. The Treecreeper was at Druidibeg. A Blue Tit, Blackcap, 10 Fieldfare and 30 Redwings were in Bornish.

Barra: 6+ Yellow-browed Warblers are still on the island. A Mistle Thrush was at North Bay. The Treecreeper is still at Ardmhor. A few flock of Pink-footed Geese came in during the afternoon.

Insects: A Red Admiral was at Langass Lodge today.

15th October:

North Uist: The Chiffchaff is still in Carinish.

South Uist: A Treecreeper, Chiffchaff and around 10 Fieldfare were at Druidibeg Plantation. The Surf Scoter was with 6 Common Scoters in the south bay at Ardvule and a Little Egret was briefly on Loch Ardvule. A Blackcap and 4 Bramblings were in South Glendale. A Little Egret was seen at Carnan. A Wheatear was at the mouth of the Howmore River. A Little Egret was back on the pools by Hebridean Jewellery this evening.

14th October:

Lewis: A 1st winter Mediterranean Gull was at North Tolsta today and a Water Rail was seen nearby.

North Uist: A Chiffchaff is still in Carinish.

South Uist: The Surf Scoter was with 4 Common Scoters off the south bay at Ardvule again today. The Little Egret was commuting between Hebridean Jewellery and the north end of Loch Bee; also a Wheatear here. A Blue Tit, Yellow-browed Warbler, Blackcap and 6 Fieldfare were in Bornish.

Barra: A Little Bunting and Pied Flycatcher are in North Bay.

13th October:

North Uist: A Chiffchaff and Goldcrest were in Carinish today.

South Uist: A Little Egret was at Hebridean Jewellery this morning. A Blackcap and Wheatear were in South Glendale. The Surf Scoter was with 4 Common Scoters at Ardvule.

Barra: An Arctic Warbler and Yellow-browed Warbler were at Grean, Cuithir. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and a Treecreeper were at Ardmhor. A Yellow-browed Warbler and a Woodcock were at Brevig.

Insects: 3 Red Admirals were in South Glendale and 2 were in Carinish.

12th October:

Lewis: A juvenile Marsh Harrier was seen at Galson. A Yellow-browed Warbler and 3 Swallows were at Port of Ness. A Short-eared Owl came in off the sea at the Butt; also 2 Jack Snipe there. A juvenile Curlew Sandpiper was at Siadar.

North Uist: A Chiffchaff and Fieldfare were in Carinish this morning. 2 Jack Snipe and a Coot were at Loch Sandary. 2 Jack Snipe, A Coot, 2 Lapland Buntings and a Sand Martin were at Balranald.

South Uist: The juvenile American Golden Plover and 7 Pink-footed Geese were still at Bornish. The Pectoral Sandpiper, a Jack Snipe and a juvenile Scaup were at Ardvule. A Tree Sparrow, Wheatear and Blackcap were in South Glendale. A Blue Tit was seen in Bornish again this morning along with 2 Bramblings, 30 Redwings, 2 Fieldfare and 2 Blackcaps.

Insects: 26 moths / 6 species were caught in South Glendale including 2 Angle Shades, 6 Silver Y, 3 Brindled Ochre, 7 Small Wainscot and micros 6 Rush Veneer and 3 Diamond-back Moths.

11th October:

Harris: A 1st winter Little Gull was in the Sound of Taransay.

North Uist: An "Eastern" Yellow Wagtail dropped in at Carinish late this afternoon; also a Lapland Bunting south over there this morning and a female Blackcap and Chiffchaff present. A Treecreeper and female Blackcap were in Langass Wood. A flava wagtail was also reported from Clachan Farm. 20 Lapland Buntings were on Grenitote machair. A Little Egret was off the causeway between Benbecula and Grimsay. A Lapland Bunting was on Baleshare.

South Uist: At Ardvule this morning 27 Great Northern Divers, 9 Red-throated Divers and a Lapland Bunting flew south while a Great Skua flew north. Other species present were the juvenile Surf Scoter and Pectoral Sandpiper. Bornish machair had 7 Pink-footed Geese and a juvenile American Golden Plover. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and a Lesser Whitethroat were at Carnan this morning. A Blue Tit, 3 Brambling, a female Blackcap and 10 Redwings were in Bornish along with a Lesser Whitethroat. 3 Fieldfare, 25 Redwings and 3 Bramblings were in Snishival.

Insects: A Painted Lady and Small Tortoiseshell were at Carnan. A Red Admiral was at Carinish.

10th October:

Harris: A Yellow-browed Warbler was at Sgarasta Mhor.

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler and 70+ Redwings were in Lochmaddy. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff and female Blackcap are in Carinish; also a Brambling south over here this morning. 2 Chiffchaffs and a Wheatear were on Grimsay.

South Uist: 70 Redwings, a Fieldfare, Chiffchaff, 2 Blackcaps and a male Crossbill were seen in South Glendale today. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler were at Snishival this evening. A female Blackcap and Brambling were in Bornish with 20 Barnacle Geese heading south-east over there at lunchtime. Yellow-browed Warblers were at Tharsal and Howmore.

Barra: A Little Bunting was trapped at Breivg this morning. The American Golden Plover is still at Allasdale and there were good numbers of Yellow-browed Warblers around the island with numbers in the high 20's.

Insects: Moth trapping at North Loch Eynort produced 30 moths / 10 species which included 2 Small Wainscot, 1 Red-line Quaker, 1 Satellite (2nd record for OH), 9 Grey Pine Carpet, 2 Spruce Carpet (2nd record for OH), 3 Red-green Carpet and 9 Autumn Green Carpet as well as Agonopterix ciliella and Blastobasis adustella.

9th October:

Lewis: A Yellow-browed Warbler was in Port of Ness. A Yellow-browed Warbler and Lapland Bunting were at St Ronas Drive, Lional today.

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff, 6 Redwings and 5 Goldfinch were at Callanish House. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff, male and female Blackcap were at Claddach Vallay. A Wheatear was at Claddach Baleshare. 2 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Sandary. A Coot was on Loch nam Feithean. 2 Bramblings, a Ruff and 2 Pink-footed Geese were at Balranald. 26 Barnacle Geese were at Balelone. 2 Chiffchaffs were in Carinish.

Benbecula: A Ruff was at Loch na Meallaird.

South Uist: 3 Yellow-browed Warblers, a Garden Warbler, 2 Brambling and a brief Blue Tit in Bornish. Yellow-browed Warbler in a gardens at Stilligarry. Yellow-browed Warbler and Brambling at Stoneybridge. Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff, 4 Bramblings and 50 Redwings at Tharsal. Lesser Whitethroat, Chiffchaff and 2 Bramblings at Snishival. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, Chiffchaff and 30 Redwings at North Loch Eynort. 2 Chiffchaffs were at Grogarry Lodge. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Chiffchaff and Woodcock were in South Glendale. The Pectoral Sandpiper was still at Ardvule and a Long-tailed Duck flew south there.

Barra: 28 Yellow-browed warblers were on the island today with 11+ in the Brevig area alone. Also 2 Woodcock at Brevig and a Ring Ouzel at Glen.

Insects: 28 moths / 10 species were caught last night in South Glendale which included 2 Brindled Ochre, 1 Large Wainscot, 1 Red Sword-grass, 1 Red-line Quaker, 2 Silver Y, 2 Rush Veneer and a Diamond-back Moth.

8th October:

Lewis: A Yellow-browed Warbler was at the head of Loch Seaforth (along the Eishken Road). 5 Fieldfares and ca 50 Redwings at Garyvard. 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Goldcrest and a flock of 20 Goldfinches were at Gravir.

Harris: 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were in Tarbet, 1 was at Lickisto and 2 were at Flodabay.

North Uist: 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, a Goldcrest and 8 Redwings were in Carinish this morning. 15 Goldfinch were at Balranald. A Water Rail was at Bayhead this evening. A Yellow-browed Warbler was at Cheese Bay today.

South Uist: A Dotterel was on the Range at West Gerinish along with 12 Black-tailed Godwits. A female Pintail and Pink-footed Goose were on Loch Bee. The Surf Scoter and Pectoral Sandpiper were again at Ardvule; a Pintail also flew south there this morning. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers and 2 female Blackcaps were at South Loch Eynort. A Chiffchaff, male and female Blackcap, 50 - 60 Redwings and 10 redpolls (at least 4 were Common) were at North Loch Eynort. 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were at Bornish. A Yellow-browed Warbler, 4 Chiffchaff, 12 Goldfinch and at least 60 Redwings were on the west side of Tharsal at Howmore. 30 Redwings were at Druidibeg plantation. A Sand Martin was at Kinloch. 100 - 120 Lapland Buntings and a Jack Snipe were on Eochar machair. A Yellow-browed Warbler and Pied Flycatcher were in South Glendale.

Barra: 5+ Yellow-browed Warblers and 2 Brambling were in North Bay. 3+ Yellow-browed Warblers were at Brevig and 4 others were scattered around the island. The American Golden Plover is still at Allasdale.

7th October:

Harris: Yellow-browed Warblers were seen at Northton and Luskentyre. A Short-toed Lark was at Kyles of Scalpay this afternoon. A Barred Warbler was at Lickisto, near Tarbet.

North Uist: A Yellow-browed Warbler, Goldcrest and 15 Redwings were in Carinish today.

South Uist: The Surf Scoter and Pectoral Sandpiper were at Ardvule. 30+ Redwings were in Druidibeg plantation. A Yellow-browed Warbler, Blackcap and 32 Redwings were in South Glendale. The Blue Tit is still in Askernish. A Yellow-browed Warbler and 30 Redwings were in Bornish this evening. 2 Woodcock and 10 Redwings were at North Loch Eynort.

Barra: 1 probably 2 Yellow-browed Warblers were in North Bay this afternoon.

6th October:

Lewis: A Hoopoe was 1 km south-west of the Butt. 2 Jack Snipe, 3 Redwings, 4 Chiffchaffs, 3 Blackcaps and a Willow Warbler were also seen around Port of Ness / Lionel.

Harris: Yellow-browed Warblers were seen at Gobhaig and Amhuinnsuidhe. A Black-throated Diver was in the Sound of Taransay.

North Uist: 6 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Sandary and a Whimbrel was at Clachan. At least 7 Lapland Buntings were at Balemore. A Pintail was at Oban Trumisgarry. At least 2 Lapland Buntings and a Short-eared Owl were on Baleshare.

South Uist: The Surf Scoter was still in the south bay at Ardvule. 2 Blue Tits are in South Glendale. A Blue Tit and a Yellow-browed Warbler were seen in Askernish.

Barra: An Olive-backed Pipit was seen briefly at Ardmhor this morning. The American Golden Plover is still at Allasdale. 3 Blackcaps were at Brevig. 34 Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor.

Insects: A Red Admiral was seen in Port of Ness.

Marine Sightings: 5 Risson's Dolphins were seen heading north-west past the Butt.

5th October:

Harris: 2 Black-tailed Godwits were at Northton.

South Uist: A single Great Skua and an Arctic Tern flew south at Ardvule this morning. The juvenile Surf Scoter was still in the south bay at Ardvule.

Insects: 52 moths / 8 species were caught in South Glendale last night including 11 Angle Shades, 4 Rosy Rustic, 2 Silver Y, 1 Red-line Quaker and 29 Small Wainscot as well as micros Agonopterix propinquella f. rhodochrella, 2 Plutella xylostella and 2 Nomophila noctuella. 2 Red Admirals were also seen in South Glendale today.

4th October:

Lewis: 5 Pink-footed Geese were in Crossbost today.

Harris: 30 Common Scoters, 6 Slavonian Grebe and 6 Great Northern Divers were in the Sound of Taransay.

Benbecula: A Pectoral Sandpiper, Lapland Bunting and 2 Pintail were on Baleshare this afternoon.

South Uist: A Surf Scoter is in the south bay at Ardvule along with a Slavonian Grebe. 812 Gannets, 5 Red-throated Divers and 4 Great Northern Divers flew south off Ardvule this morning. 10 Pink-footed Geese were on Bornish machair. 2 Redwings and a Willow Warbler were in South Glendale.

Barra: A Lapland Bunting was on Vatersay. The juvenile American Golden Plover is still at Allasdale.

3rd October:

Lewis: A Leach's Petrel and a Pomarine Skua were seen from the Ullapool - Stornoway ferry today.

North Uist: A Pectoral Sandpiper was on Baleshare today.

Benbecula: A Ruff was on Borve machair.

South Uist: 4 Brent Geese were at Hebridean Jewellery and 10 Black-tailed Godwits were on the Range.

 

2nd October:

Benbecula: 3 Slavonian Grebes were off Balivanich today.

South Uist: The Eastern Kingbird was in a garden in Bornish today although was has not been seen since around mid-afternoon. The Buff-breasted Sandpiper was seen again at West Gerinish this afternoon; also 63 Black-tailed Godwits there.

Lewis: The Barred Warbler is still at Port of Ness

North Uist: A Grey Wagtail was at Clachan Farm. At least 4 Lapland Buntings were at Borve, Berneray.

Benbecula: The Common Crane was on Liniclate machair this morning before heading south towards the west side of Loch Bee; also 4 Lapland Buntings were in the area. A female Blackcap was in Torlum and 4 Whooper Swans flew south.

South Uist: A Buff-breasted Sandpiper was at West Gerinish. 100+ Lapland Buntings were on Eochar machair. 3 juvenile Curlew Sandpipers were at Ardivachar.

Barra: A juvenile American Golden Plover was at Allasdale. The Yellow-browed Warbler was at Creachan / Brevig. 51 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Traigh Mhor,
