30th June:

North Uist - Harris: 68 Storm Petrels were seen today between Lochmaddy and the Shiants.

Marine Sightings: 18 Risso's Dolphins and around 220 Common Dolphins were seen 1 mile east of Loch Skipport this morning. 7 Minke Whales, 4 Bottle-nosed Dolphins, 7 Common Dolphins and 55 Harbour Porpoise were seen between Lochmaddy and the Shiants today.

29th June:

North Uist: A drake Scaup was on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry today.

Insects: At least 16 Red Admirals and 4 Large Whites were at 7 Carinish this afternoon.

28th June:

South> Uist: 4 Swifts flew north over Ardivachar this morning.

27th June:

Rockall: A juvenile Starling was seen here today. http://rockallsolo.blogspot.co.uk/

North Uist: A Swift was seen heading north over the Committee Road today.

26th June:

Benbecula: A Whitethroat was singing at Griminish this morning.

South Uist: 8 Swifts were seen over Frobost this afternoon.

Insects: Good numbers of Large Whites and especially Red Admirals are around at the moment with at least 11 of the latter and 3 of the former at 7 Carinish alone.

25th June:

North Uist: The eclipse, drake American Wigeon is still on Loch na Reivil.

Insects: A Red Admiral was along the shore at Baleshare this afternoon.

24th June:

Insects: 7 Red Admirals were in Carinish today.

23rd June:

North Uist: The American Wigeon was on Loch na Reivil (Bird guides) again today. A Whitethroat was in Carinish.

Insects: A Peach Blossom and Least Black Arches (1st for Outer Hebrides) were trapped in North Bay, Barra on 19th June.

21st June:

North Uist: A Black-tailed Godwit was on Loch na Reivil and the drake Scaup is on Loch Sandary.

20th June:

North Uist: The eclipse, male American Wigeon is on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry.

South Uist: A Chiffchaff and Blackcap are still singing at North Loch Eynort.

19th June:

North Uist: The American Wigeon is on Loch na Reivil.

Insects: A Large White butterfly was seen at Griminish Pier today. 197 moths, comprising of 43 species were trapped in South Glendale last night; including Drinke, Mottled Beauty and Pretty Pinion.

18th June:

North Uist: The eclipse, drake American Wigeon is still on Loch na Reivil. Drake Scaup on Loch Sandary.

Insects: A Red Admiral and Large White butterflies were seen near Kyles Paible.

17th June:

South Uist: The Blackcap was still singing at North Loch Eynort today.

Insects: 5 Brimstone Moths, 7 Common White Waves, 3 Poplar Lutestring, a Ghost Moth, 5 Map-winged Swifts, 3 Poplar Hawkmoths, 2 Mottled Beauty, a Grey Pug and a Foxglove Pug were trapped at Loch Eynort last night.

16th June:

South Uist: A Red-breasted Flycatcher is in Bornish today. A male Blackcap was singing in North Loch Eynort.

15th June:

Insects: A good catch of moths at Carinish last night included 9 Elephant Hawkmoths, 5 Poplar Hawkmoths, 2 Ruby Tigers, 3 Small Angle Shades and a Rusty-dot Pearl.

14th June:

Lewis: An adult Long-tailed Skua was seen over Loch na Muilne before drifting off east.

North Uist: The partial, eclipse, drake American Wigeon is still on Loch na Reivil.

Benbecula: A Black-tailed Godwit was on Loch Mor this morning.

South Uist: 2 Red-necked Phalaropes flew north over the Howmore River late this morning.

Insects: A Common Footman, Ruby Tiger, Cinnabar, 2 Double-striped Pugs and a Small Angle Shades were trapped on the east side of South Uist (to the east of South Glendale) last night.

13th June:

Lewis: The Red-breasted Goose was seen at Loch Stiapabhat again today.

12th June:

North Uist: The drake American Wigeon is on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry and 2 Red-necked Phalaropes dropped in. 9 Black-tailed Godwits are at Loch nam Feithean. 85 Collared Doves were counted on wires behind the Westford Inn late this evening.

11th June:

Harris: A 2nd cal yr Iceland Gull is at Northton.

North Uist: A Common Rosefinch and Rose-coloured Starling were in Grenitote this evening. The American Wigeon is still on Loch na Reivil, Hougharry.

10th June:

North Uist: The drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary. A flava wagtail flew south-east over the car park at Aird an Runair early afternoon. A partial eclipse, drake American Wigeon and 2 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch na Reivil, Hougharry.

9th June:

Lewis: A Curlew Sandpiper was on a pool by the road near the Butt this morning and a Swift came in off the sea from the north-east. A Quail was heard calling in North Tolsta today.

Marine Sightings: 12 Bottle-nosed Dolpins were off the Butt this morning.

Insects: 200 moths were trapped in South Glendale last night including Buff-tip. Also caught were a Heart and Dart, Spectacle, Silver Y, Poplar Hawkmoth, Dark Brocade, Small Angle Shades, 2 Pebble Prominent, 9 Dusky Brocade, 7 Knot Grass, 34 Shears, 13 Broom Moth, 9 Bright-line Brown-eye, 10 Flame Shoulder, Clouded-bordered Brindle, 2 True Lover’s Knot, 46 Buff Ermine, 7 White Ermine, 24 Brown Silver-line, 12 Silver-ground Carpet, Flame carpet, Garden Carpet, 2 Green Carpet, Foxglove Pug, 4 Grey Pug, Common Pug and 3 Narrow-winged Pugs.

8th June:

North Uist: A Golden Oriole was seen at Cheese Bay today.

Benbecula: 3 Black-tailed Godwits were seen behind the telephone exchange at Dunganachie in the afternoon.

South Uist: 4 Swifts flew south over Ardvule today.

7th June:

Lewis: A Red-breasted Goose (of unknown origin) was around Loch Stiapabhat today and a Tundra Bean Goose nearby this evening.

South Uist: A singing Greenish Warbler was at North Loch Eynort today (song here). A Lesser Whitethroat was singing at South Loch Eynort. A drake Goosander was on Loch Rog.

6th June:

Lewis: An Icterine Warbler was singing in Port of Ness this afternoon.

North Uist: A 1st summer Glaucous Gull was at Aird an Runair.

South Uist: A 2nd cal yr Iceland Gull was at Vorran Island today.

Marine Sightings: A Minke Whale was seen heading north off Port of Ness at 13:30. Around 10 Harbour Porpoise were off Rushgarry, Berneray this morning.

Insects: A Red Admiral and Painted Lady were seen at Ardivachar today.

5th June:

Harris: An Iceland Gull is in the fields east of Temple Cafe, Northton.

Insects: A Marbled Coronet was trapped to the east of South Glendale last night.

4th June:

Lewis: Belated news of a Black Stork at Uig Sands last Saturday 31st May.

Harris: An Iceland Gull is at Northton.

North Uist: The Whiskered Tern was still at Loch Brusda, Berneray this morning before heading off to hawk above Beinn Shleibhe, to the north around mid-day.

Insects: A Green Silver-lines moth and Orange Tip butterfly were seen in the Stornoway area recently (First and second for the Outer Hebrides respectively)

3rd June:

Lewis: Two Pectoral Sandpipers and a female Ruff are on the machair at Fivepenny.

North Uist: A Whiskered Tern and Roseate Tern were both reported from Loch Brusda, Berneray this afternoon.

Insects: A Silver Hook was trapped in South Glendale last night.

2nd June:

Lewis: A Marsh Warbler was singing in Port of Ness this morning and later in the afternoon. A Pectoral Sandpiper and female Ruff were on the machair at Fivepenny. 

North Uist: A 2nd cal yr Glaucous Gull was on the beach at Aird an Runair.

South Uist: The female / immature Common Rosefinch was still in the garden at Monach View, North Bay early this morning.

1st June:

Lewis: The drake American Wigeon was on Loch na Muilne, Ness today. A female Ruff and Black-tailed Godwit were at Fivepenny. A female Blackcap and Whitethroat were in Port of Ness. 2 Goldeneye were at Loch Stiapabhat. 8 Whimbrel were at the Butt and a 2nd summer Mediterranean Gull was along the cliff top to the south-west of the lighthouse for a few minutes in the afternoon.

North Uist: The drake Scaup is still on Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A drake and 2 female Garganey were on Loch Mor today.

South Uist: A 2nd cal yr Iceland Gull is at Ardivachar. A female / immature Common Rosefinch was in the garden at Monach View, North Bay this afternoon.
