29th April:

Lewis: 310 Long-tailed Ducks were on Loch Branahuie this morning.

North Uist: 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls, a juvenile Iceland Gull, 3 Pink-footed Geese, male Ruff and around 10 Whimbrel were at Balranald this morning. 7 Iceland Gulls (6 juveniles and a 2nd winter), 2 x 2nd winter Glaucous Gulls, 2 Bonxies heading north-eastwards, 2 pale-bellied Brent Geese and 22+ Whimbrel were at or near Rubh' Arnal this morning. A juvenile Glaucous Gull was on Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: A White-fronted Goose was at Loch Mor. A Curlew Sandpiper was at Torlum along with 1,400 Golden Plover. A further 600 Golden Plover were at Borve and 450 just south of Balivanich.

South Uist: The Crane was still by Loch an' t-Saile today. 27 Black-tailed Godwits were at Ardivachar. 1,200 Golden Plover were at Kilaulay. A couple of Corncrakes were calling near Balgarva.

28th April:

Lewis: Around 85 Long-tailed Ducks had gathered on Loch Branahuie this morning. 120 Pink-footed Geese, 10 Barnacle Geese, 2,000 Golden Plover, around 60 Black-tailed Godwits and a Ruff were on and around Eoropie machair. A possible White-billed Diver was seen to the west of Tiumpan Head lighthouse today.

Benbecula: At least 40 Black-tailed Godwits were in Stinky Bay. Around 1,000 Golden Plover are in the Torlum area and at least another 300 were near Balivanich.

South Uist: The Common Crane was by Loch an' t-Saile again today along with at least 90 Black-tailed Godwits. Another 12+ Black-tailed Godwits were at Ardivachar. 3 Arctic Skuas and 12 Great Skuas flew north off Ardvule this morning.

27th April:

Lewis: 2 Dotterel are at Loch na Muilne.

North Uist: The male Ruff is still on the shore at Aird an Runair; also 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls, a juvenile Iceland Gull and a handful of Whimbrel and Black-tailed Godwits were at Balranald. 21 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Sandary.

South Uist:  A Common Crane was seen this afternoon near Loch an' t-Saile; also 53 Black-tailed Godwits, 3 Whimbrel and a pair of Pintail there. A juvenile Glaucous Gull and juvenile Iceland Gull are at Ardivachar. 1,000 Golden Plover, 22 Whimbrel and 12 Black-tailed Godwits were on the Range between West Gerinish and Ardivacahar. 3 Whimbrel, 16 Black-tailed Godwits and 5 Pintail were at Bornish / Ardvule. 20 Whimbrel and 4 Black-tailed Godwits were at Smerclate.

26th April:

Lewis: 2,000 Golden Plover and 140 Black-tailed Godwits were on Eoropie machair. The 2nd winter Glaucous Gull and 10 Barnacle Geese were at Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: 7 Whimbrel were in Carinish this morning. 40+ Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Mor and 27+ were by Loch Mhic Coan, Baleshare.

Benbecula: The Great White Egret was still on Oban Liniclate today.

South Uist: 8 Great Skuas flew north at Ardvule this morning.

25th April:

Lewis: 2,000 Golden Plover and 112 Black-tailed Godwits were on Eoropie machair. A 2nd winter Iceland Gull and 2nd winter Glaucous Gull as well as 10 Barnacle Geese were on Loch Stiapabhat.

Benbecula: The Great White Egret was still on Oban Lionacleit today. A Slavonian Grebe was on Coot Loch along with 8 Black-tailed Godwits and 6 Swallows; another 20 Black-tailed Godwits flew over.

South Uist: 5 Great Skuas and 2 Whimbrel flew north at Ardvule this morning and an Arctic Skua flew south. 154 Black-tailed Godwits were on Bornish machair along with 3 Whimbrel, 5 Pintail and 15 Shoveler. 25 White Wagtails were roosting in Bornish this evening.

24th April:

Lewis: 9 juvenile Iceland Gulls and 2 juvenile Glaucous Gulls are in Stornoway Harbour. A Blackcap is singing in Willowglen, Stornoway and another in the Castle Grounds. A Whimbrel flew over Loch na Muilne, Arnol. A Glaucous Gull was on Loch Stiapabhat this afternoon and a juvenile Iceland Gull earlier in the day. 2 Ruff, 2,000 Golden Plover, 26 Whimbrel, 160 Black-tailed Godwits and 8 White Wagtails were on Eoropie machair. A Black Redstart, Snow Bunting, 7 White Wagtails and 7 Whimbrel were at the Butt. A Blackcap, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff were in Port of Ness.

North Uist: 2 Common Sandpipers were seen on the east side of Grimsay this morning.

Benbecula: 24 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch. The Great White Egret is at Oban Liniclate this evening. 25 Black-tailed Godwits were in Stinky Bay. A Greenland White-fronted Goose was at Loch Mor.

South Uist: A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull, 6 Whimbrel and 10 White Wagtails were at Ardivachar this morning. A Cuckoo and Redwing were in South Glendale.

23rd April:

Lewis: A Chiffchaff is singing in Carloway and 2 Glaucous Gulls are at Loch Barvas. 72 Black-tailed Godwits, 2, 200 Golden Plover, a Ruff and 12 Pink-footed Geese were on Eoropie machair. A Snow Bunting and 28 White Wagtails were at the Butt.

Benbecula: 2 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch. 8 Black-tailed Godwits and a Pink-footed Goose were at Loch Fada and the Great White Egret flew south over there.

South Uist: 20 White Wagtails, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Black-tailed Godwits, 31 Pale-bellied Brents and a juvenile Kumlien’s Gull were at Ardvule today. 6 Whimbrel, a Swallow and 4 White Wagtails were at Smerclate.

Insects: 8 Early Tooth-striped, 1 Golden-rod Pug and  2 Brindled Pugs (new for the Outer Hebrides) were trapped at North Loch Eynort last night. A male Belted Beauty was caught at Carloway, Lewis.

22nd April:

St. Kilda: A Great Tit was seen on Hirta last Sunday, 19th April.

North Uist: A Redwing, Goldfinch and at least 3 redpolls were in Langass Wood this morning.

South Uist: 82 pale-bellied Brent Geese are now at Balgarva.

Insects:A Pine Beauty moth was trapped in Langass Wood last along with the migrant Dark Sword-grass. 3 Dark Sword-grass and a Diamondback Moth (migrant micro) were trapped at Carinish along with a Powdered Quaker. 113 moths of 17 species were trapped in South Glendale last night including of 5 Emperor Moths, 3 Puss Moths, a Brindled Ochre, Dark Sword-grass, 6 Brown Silver-lines, a Dark-barred Twin-spot Carpet, 5 Double-striped Pugs, 2 Diamondback Moths and an Emmelina monodactyla – 2nd for Outer Hebrides.

21st April:

North Uist: An Arctic Skua flew north over the North Ford off Carinish this morning.

Benbecula: The Great White Egret was seen at Griminish at lunch time.

South Uist: 61 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch an t'Saile this morning and a Swallow flew north at Ardivachar. 3 Whimbrel and 8 White Wagtails were at Ardvule. A Swallow and a House Martin were seen on the beach at Orosay, Boisdale.

20th April:

Large numbers of Meadow Pipits, White Wagtails and Wheatears are in Uist at the moment.

North Uist: A Willow Warbler and 2 Common Redpolls were in Carinish this morning. The drake Green-winged Teal is still on Loch a' Roe.

South Uist: The Great White Egret was seen at the north end of Loch Bee early this morning. 2 Siskins and a Willow Warbler are in South Glendale. 2 Great Tits were in Stillgarry this evening. 2 Snow Buntings were at Ardivachar and 13 pale-bellied Brent Geese were at Balgarva.

19th April:

Monachs: A Willow Warbler, 2 Redwings and a Swallow were on Shillay. 2 Chiffchaff and a Twite were on Ceann Iar. A Chiffchaff was on Ceann Ear. A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull was at Stockay.

North Uist: At least 5 Common Terns and 4 Little Terns are on the North Ford.

South Uist: The Great White Egret was seen at the north end of Loch Bee again this morning; a Corncrake was calling nearby and a male Blackcap was also seen. A Cuckoo was in Bornish.

Insects: 2 Belted Beauties were seen on Ceann Iar, 3 on Shivinish and 4 (including a female) were on Ceann Ear, Monachs.

18th April:

North Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal was reported again from Loch a' Roe, Aird an Runair along with an Iceland Gull and a Ruff nearby.

Monachs: A Chiffchaff was on Shillay.

South Uist: A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull and 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls were off Stoneybridge; also 3 Whimbrel there. A Common Redpoll, male Blackcap and 2 Willow Warblers were at Druidibeg plantation. A Great White Egret was seen at the north end of Loch Bee.

Sound of Barra: 87 Great Northern Divers, 10 Black-throated Divers and 3 Common Scoter were seen from the ferry.

Barra: A male Ring Ouzel was at the south end of Vatersay. An Arctic Tern was at Borve Point. Several Willow Warblers were in Castle Bay. 25 Brent Geese were at Eoligarry.

17th April:

Lewis: 7,000 geese, of which at least 4,000 were Pink-footed Geese flew up the Minch and headed north-west over the Butt between 06:30 - 10:30. Also around Ness were a White-billed Diver, female Ring Ouzel, Sand Martin and 2 Whimbrel. A Cuckoo was in Barvas today.

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull flew north at Aird an Runair and a Swallow was also there. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Balranald along with at least 4 White Wagtails. A Whimbrel was at Griminish pier. 6 Iceland Gulls (an adult and 5 juveniles), 4 immature Glaucous Gulls and a juvenile Kumlien's Gull were at Rubh' Arnal. A couple of small flocks of Pink-footed Geese were seen heading over the island whilst around 1,000 geese were seen heading north, out to sea off the west side.

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup is still at Loch Ardvule; also a Whimbrel, 3 White Wagtails and 69 Barnacle Geese there. A Blackcap, Chiffchaff and 3 Redwings were in South Glendale whilst 200 Pink-footed Geese flew north. A Cuckoo was in Bornish along with a Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and female Blackcap.

16th April:

Lewis: 3 White-billed Divers were off Skigersta in the afternoon.

North Uist: The Green-winged Teal was seen at Loch a' Roe, Balranald again today and the 1st yr Ring-billed Gull was at Tigharry.

South Uist: 6 Willow Warblers, a Chiffchaff and a female Blackcap were at Loch Eynort this morning. A juvenile Iceland Gull and 2 Whimbrel were at Smerclate whilst around 90 pale-bellied Brent Geese were off Garrynamonie before flying north in the afternoon. 200 Pink-footed Geese flew north over Kilpheder this afternoon and around another 50 flew north-west over the South Ford in the late afternoon. a Little Tern was at the north end of Loch Bee this afternoon.

Insects: 6 Belted Beauties (2 males and 4 females) were seen at Smerclate.

Marine Sightings: 3 Killer Whales passed south off Skigersta in the afternoon.

15th April:

Lewis: 8 Iceland Gulls (an adult and 7 juveniles) and a juvenile Glaucous Gull were in Stornoway Harbour today.

North Uist: 2 Chiffchaffs were at Langass Lodge and another was at Grenitote. A Common Tern was off Rushgarry, Berneray. A juvenile Iceland Gull flew west over Oban Trumisgarry this morning.

Benbecula: At least 30 Black-tailed Godwits were at Coot Loch.

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup is still on Loch Ardvule. 4 Great Skuas flew north off Ardvule. A pair of Pintail and 7 Black-tailed Godwits were on Bornish machair. A Blackcap was in South Glendale.

14th April:

Lewis: 8 Iceland Gulls (an adult and 7 juveniles) and a juvenile Glaucous Gull were in Stornoway Harbour today.

South Uist: The Lesser Scaup is still on Loch Ardvule, paired with a Tufted Duck. A Black-throated Diver flew south off Ardvule and a juvenile Iceland Gull flew north. A pair of Pintail were on Bornish machair and 4 Sand Martins were over Loch Bornish. A 2nd winter Glaucous Gull and 3 juvenile Iceland Gulls were at Peninerine with a Sand Martins off-shore. 4 Scaup were on Loch Bee.

13th April:

Lewis: 2 Greenland White-fronted Geese, 700 Golden Plover and 3 Black-tailed Godwits were in Ness. A Blackcap and 65 Redwings were in Port of Ness.

North Uist: A juvenile Glaucous Gull was at Claddach Kirkibost. A juvenile Iceland Gull and a Ruff were on the shore at Aird an Runair. Another juvenile Glaucous Gull was near Griminish Pier. The drake Green-winged Teal was on Loch Sandary.

Benbecula: 45 Black-tailed Godwits and a Slavonian Grebe were at Coot Loch. A pair of Pintail were on Loch Fada. 2 Wheatears were on the beach at Stinky Bay. A 'commic' tern (probably a Common) was off Balivanich this morning.

South Uist: The female Lesser Scaup was on Loch Ardvule and a pair of Pintail were on Bornish machair. 2 pale-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Glaucous Gulls (juvenile and 2nd winter) and a hybrid Glaucous Gull were at Ardivachar whilst a juvenile Iceland Gull was on the machair nearby. 4 Scaup were on Loch Bee. A juvenile Iceland Gull was at Smerclate. A Blackcap was in South Glendale.

12th April:

Lewis: 3 Black-tailed Godwits were at Loch Stiapabhat and 6 Greenland White-fronted Geese were in the area.

North Uist: The Green-winged Teal was at Loch a' Roe, Balranald today.

Benbecula: A pair of Pintail and 12 Greenland White-fronted Geese were at Coot Loch.

South Uist: A female Lesser Scaup is on Loch Ardvule this morning; a Black-tailed Godwit was also present. A pair of Pintail were on Bornish machair and 2 Sand Martins were seen in Bornish. A juvenile Iceland Gull was on the shore at Peninerine.

11th April:

Lewis: 10 Greenland White-fronted Geese, including a colour-ringed individual (darvic on right leg X9P) were at the Butt today. 350 - 400 Redwings were in Stornoway today.

South Uist: A seawatch from Ardvule included a southerly passage of 214 Gannets, 83 Manx Shearwaters, 138 Fulmars, a Common Scoter, 31 Razorbills, 53 Kittiwakes and a Great Skua (and one north).2 Juvenile Iceland Gulls were at Peninerine. A male Blackcap and 4 Goldfinches were in South Glendale. A Hoopoe is in a private garden in Ormiclate today.

10th April:

Lewis: 19 Iceland Gulls (17 1st winters and 2 x 2nd winters) were in Stornoway Harbour today.

North Uist: 28 Whooper Swans flew north at Carinish this morning. 40 Greenland White-fronts were at Balranald and 4 1st-winter Glaucous Gulls as well as a 1st-winter Iceland Gull were on the shore there. The 1st yr Ring-billed Gull was also on Balranald on land being harrowed.

South Uist: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and a 3rd winter Kumlien's Gull were at Smerclate today. A Blackcap was in South Glendale.

Marine Sightings: A pod of Killer Whales were seen off Stornoway today.

9th April:

Lewis: 38 Pink-footed Geese, 9 White-fronted Geese and 2 Gadwall in the Ness area. 5, 1st winter Iceland Gulls and 1st winter Glaucous Gull at the Butt.

North Uist: 5 x 1st winter Glaucous Gulls and a 1st winter Iceland Gull were on a whale carcass at Balrnald.

South Uist: 2 Blackcaps were in South Glendale today and a Chiffchaff was at Bornish.

Insects: Early Grey moths were trapped at North Loch Eynort and South Glendale. 3 Hebrew Characters were caught at Carnan.

8th April:

Lewis: 5 Iceland Gulls and a Glaucous Gull were near the Butt. 350 Pink-footed Geese, 100 Greylags, 10 White-fronted Geese and 7 Barnacle Geese between Port of Ness and the Butt. 6 Pintail and 2 Gadwall were at Loch Stiapabhat. 400 Redwings were in and around Cross.

South Uist: 2 male Blackcaps and 65 Redwings were in South Glendale today and 26 Whooper Swans flew north.

Insects: 3 female Belted Beauties were on Eriskay.

7th April:

Lewis: 13 Whooper Swans were at Bragar. 2 Glaucous Gulls were at Bragar. 50 Pink-footed Geese and a Wheatear were at Barvas. Between Eoropie Cemetery and Port of Ness today were c100 Pink-feet, 96 Greylags and two separate flocks of 6 and 10 Greenland White-fronts. Newly arrived were a pair of Pintail and 2 pairs of Gadwall. 200 Redwing were in Eoropie area.

Benbecula:150 Redwings were at Liniclate.

South Uist: A juvenile Iceland Gull and 240 Redwings were at Smerclate. Lots of redwings around witg 700+ Bornish to Peninerine; 100 Ardivachar; 150 West Gerinish; 200 Snishival. 64 Whooper Swans were at Loch Bee and 2 summer plum Slav grebes. 2nd yr Glaucous Gull at Ardivachar; 2x1st yr Iceland Gulls and 3rd yr Glauc Peninerine.

6th April:

Lewis: 23 Whooper Swans were at Loch na Muilne today. 35 Pink-footed geese were near Arnol. A skein of 35 Greylags Geese came in from the sea from the east in the afternoon and came down near Eoropie cemetery, where later they were seen with 82 Pinkfeet and a single Greenland White-front. Six more Greenland White-fronts were around Loch Stiapavat all afternoon, and another 145 Pink-feet and the resident flock of 82 Barnacles were feeding in fields by Port of Ness. 2 Iceland Gulls and 4 Black-tailed Godwits were near Loch Stiapabhat.

North Uist: A drake Green-winged Teal and hybrid American Wigeon were on Loch nam Feithean. The 1st yr Ring-billed Gull was at Balranald today.

South Uist: At Ardvule this morning a Great Skua, 3 Pale-bellied Brents flew north and a Black-throated Diver flew south. At Smerclate 2 Iceland Gulls (juv/1st wint) and a 3rd winter Kumlien's Gull. Up to 236 Redwings and a Goldcrest in South Glendale.

Insects: 48 Hebrew Characters an Early Grey and 4 Agonopterix yeatiana were trapped in South Glendale last night. 2 Belted Beauty (m. f.) were seen at Smerclate today.

5th April:

Lewis: 60 Pink-footed Geese dropped in at Loch Stiapabhat this afternoon; also two skiens containing a total of 160 geese were seen distantly heading north-west. A White-billed Diver was off Skigersta Harbour this evening and single Glaucous and Iceland Gulls were in the area.

Monach Isles: Around 100 Redwings were in Shillay and 150 were on Ceann Ear. 42 pale-bellied Brent Geese were also on Ceann Ear and White-fronted Geese were heard heading over northwards (in the mist).

South Uist: A 3rd winter Kumlien's Gull was seen in flight at Kilbride this evening.

4th April:

Lewis: 2 juvenile Iceland Gulls and a Snow Bunting were at the Butt of Lewis this morning. An adult and 5 juvenile Iceland Gulls were in Stornoway Harbour.

North Uist: A 1st winter Iceland Gull was near Loch Eaval and a 2nd winter Glaucous Gull was near Tigharry.

South Uist: A 1st yr Iceland Gull and 1st yr Glaucous Gull were on Bornish Machair. An adult and 3 1st yr Iceland Gulls were at Howmore. 2 Goldfinch and a Wheatear were at Bornish.

3rd April:

North Uist: There was a Willow Warbler in Grenitote this morning. A 1st winter Iceland Gull and a pair of Pintail were on Loch nam Feiethan.

South Uist: 3 Manx Shearwaters, 27 Fulmars, 23 Kittiwakes, 42 Razorbills and 103 Puffins flew north at Ardvule this morning whilst 6 Common Scoter flew south.

2nd April:

North Uist: There was a Wheatear at Grenitote today.

1st April:

North Uist: 4 Snow Buntings were in a flock of around 100 Twite at Balranald today.  9 Whooper Swans were on loch Fada na Gearrachun, 20 on loch Scolpaig and 2 on Loch Hosta.
